Job Description

Job Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Academic Research, the Scientist of Academic Research and Clinical Liaison will manage and support academic research partnerships between Abiomed and key customer accounts and leading academic institutions in Europe. This position is key to expanding and deepening the clinical and basic science knowledge base of cardiac unloading and cardiac recovery. The EU Scientist will be an integral part of the Academic Research group and Medical Office in Abiomed and support both pre-clinical and clinical research projects in leading academic institutions and serve as an academic and clinical liaison between the company and the research sites.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support Abiomed’s growing European basic and clinical research network through partnering with academic institutions with the goal of publishing scientific work in high impact-factor peer reviewed journals
  • Travel to and communicate as a liaison between Company and academic institutions at which the Company is supporting collaborative academic research
  • Define collaborative research programs and specific objectives at key customer accounts and leading academic institutions
  • Establish research support contracts
  • Manage collaborative research programs to ensure continued progress and deliverables
  • Support the writing and preparation of research publications and presentations
  • Directly participate in various aspects of research projects as appropriate (i.e., pre-clinical studies, clinical studies, clinical data analysis, etc.)




Skills/Requirements

Job Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree (MD or PhD required) in the cardiovascular space; Post graduate clinical training in Cardiology, Internal or Emergency Medicine is an advantage
  • Prior experience in directing and conducting academic and clinical research
  • 1-3 years experience in the Medical Device Sector (Cardiovascular strongly preferred)
  • Experience in writing and publishing the results of academic research
  • Skilled in managing customer relationships
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), German proficiency is an advantage
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally approximately 50% of the time
