As a Senior Supplier Engineer you will serve as ABIOMED’s primary technical contact with key US based suppliers, lead all product development team’s supplier initiatives, second source critical suppliers, and establish “Quality at the Source” programs with key partners.  This role is a newly established Supplier Engineering function and is viewed as a key technical resource for the company’s continued growth.

 

  • Attend product development project meetings and serve as primary liaison for all actions associated with new supplier requirements
  • Outsource and transfer of sub-assemblies from internal production to suppliers
  • Assist in the " Quality at the Source" program with the objective of increasing yields at the supplier and qualifying quality inspections at the supplier facility
  • Proactively manage component obsolescence
  • Develop understanding of supplier’s manufacturing process and technology roadmap and capabilities
  • Drive strategic initiatives with suppliers
  • Supervise second source projects; continuously monitor risk of the existing suppliers /components as well defining  plans to mitigate said risks
  • Qualify new suppliers and define necessary technical tests/documentation
  • Support the transfer of product improvements into production utilizing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
  • Lead analysis of defective components found in Incoming Inspection and work with vendors to resolve
  • Assist in technical qualification of alternatives for obsolete components
  • Implement process improvements within supply chain




Skills/Requirements

 

  • BS, Engineering
  • 5 years of professional experience showing detailed technical exchange with vendors
  • Knowledge of polymer, machining, and/or electronics fabrication
  • Knowledge of Process Capability and data analysis using statistical tools
  • Good knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean and Design of Manufacturing and Six Sigma Green or Black Belt
  • Project Management experience
  • Demonstrated critical thinking in fast paced environment 
  • Strength is working well in a team environment while continually and constructively challenging the status quo
  • Dedicated, passionate and eager to learn
  •  Willingness to travel, particularly to visit suppliers (30% required)
