You will work closely with the Global VP of Mfg and Supply Chain to manage and lead the vendor management function for Abiomed’s global operations. With a strong, solid and proven background in engineering, purchasing, negotiations and vendor relationship management, you will take a proactive approach in reviewing current systems and procedures, making recommendations and implementing changes. You will be key to leading the company forward in securing quality suppliers of materials and maintaining/improving relationships with the vendors. You will manage and direct our global Supplier Engineering and Planning and Procurement teams. You will initiate quality initiatives at the source, improve vendor yields, negotiate contracts, mitigate supplier risks, facilitate the introduction of new designs through vendor base, coordinate Abiomed failure data with the supplier to ensure close loop corrective actions, second source critical components, and ensure stability in our supply chain as we rapidly scale. You will have a track record of strategically assessing organizational needs and establishing effective polices and processes to meet overall company goals.
Responsibilities:
You will manage global supplier engineering and planning and procurement functions in both EU and US
Proactively build relationships with vendors that ensure stability in Abiomed’s vendor network and establish strategic relationships with key suppliers who are aligned with the company's business goals
Negotiate all vendor material agreements, Kanban contracts, and delivery schedules to ensure adequate supply of material for global manufacturing while minimizing over purchasing
You will reduce overall supply risk though contingency planning and understanding of supplier capabilities, disaster preparedness, and financial health using appropriate tools (second sourcing, vendor scale-up, yield improvement/quality at the source programs, inventory safety stocking levels)
Direct the development and negotiation of complex agreements with suppliers
Manage the introduction of new/future designs with vendor base
Skills/Requirements
You have a BS in Engineering, MBA/MS preferred
10+ years progressive background in vendor management
10+ years of progressive hands-on operations leadership experience or technical management experience including directing engineering, manufacturing and/or supply chain. Experience successfully managing teams overseas a plus.
Experience with managing German vendors a significant plus (ability to speak German also a plus)
Six Sigma Black Belt preferred, Green Belt required,
Excellent communication skills and the leadership ability to lead teams and drive change
Experience with an ERP, device management and procurement systems is required, SAP is preferred
Continuous improvement and lean manufacturing experience required
Experience as a strong visionary and leader, and experience managing others
