This position is a player-coach role with dual responsibilities for leading and managing the junior and senior Mechanical Engineering staff within the US, and contributing to projects and programs as a senior Mechanical Engineering individual contributor.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Managerial Role:
Establish a culture of excellence in execution, continuous improvement, and communication across the Mechanical Engineering Team
Work with assigned staff and Principal Engineers to identify and implement new analytical methods, software, clinically relevant testing and training
Identify and recommend appropriate technical approaches for a diverse range of medical products and technologies including catheters, introducers, guide wires, pumps, precision mechanisms, valves, and packaging
Develop and mentor assigned staff
Interview, hire, review and manage assigned staff
Maintain a safe operating environment
Sr. Engineering Role:
Perform mechanical, fluid, vibration, thermal and reliability analyses with guidance from senior staff to support new and existing designs
Fabricate prototypes with assistance from junior staff and Engineering Support team
Work with internal and external manufacturing partners to ensure producible designs (DFM)
Develop test methods and conduct characterization and engineering pre-verification testing
Document designs by constructing solid models and drawings with ProE using GD&T and stack-up analyses
Address field complaints by determining root cause and implement corrective actions
Support sustaining engineering efforts by the timely disposition of non-conforming material and resolve producibility issues with internal and external manufacturing partners
Identify and establish new approaches and procedures
Skills/Requirements
Job Qualifications:
BS in Mechanical Engineering or directly related scientific discipline, MS desired.
8 or more years of directly related work experience; Medical device experience preferred.
Must have expertise with engineering CAD software such as ProEngineer
Must have expertise in FEA and analytical software such as MathCAD, Minitab and Matlab
Experience with applicable manufacturing processes such as injection molding, extrusion and fabrication.
Six Sigma and/or Design for Six Sigma; Black Belt preferred
Ability to gain cooperation of others and lead team members
Demonstrated critical thinking in a fast paced environment
Ability to communicate ideas and information clearly, effectively, and frequently (oral and written)
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Working knowledge of SAP desired.
May require up to 10% travel within EU & US
