Job Description

Octo Consulting Group is seeking an experienced User Experience (UX) Designer for web and interactive media support to a Federal client. The UX designer will advise and assist with strategic planning, wire framing, and prototyping for the enterprise website and enterprise design efforts. The candidate will be required to work with Senior Executives and Management Mission Teams to develop wireframes and prototypes, create surveys, and generate feedback for analysis for internal-agency and mission-facing web-sites. The candidate will work with information architects, content strategists, technologists, design team and other UX/web design experts to create clean page layouts and intuitive interfaces that lead to extraordinary user experiences. The UX Designer will develop both strategies and tactics for projects including websites, intranets, mobile applications etc.





Skills/Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in UI/UX design, UX strategy, and usability research and testing
  • Serve as an expert consultant during the detailed design phase by reviewing interaction design, copy, and visual design for usability and web design best practices
  • Excellent understanding of the overarching process of website development (discovery, planning, design, requirements, coding, testing, and user testing and evaluation)
  • Understanding of web content strategy and how it relates to the entire project lifecycle
  • Understanding of information architecture as applied to web and application design
  • Plan and execute iterative user research and analysis, defining clients’ needs, objectives, and audiences through focus groups, interviews, working sessions, surveys, and other discovery methods
  • Create documentation that establishes the vision for the project and can be used to guide decisions throughout the project lifecycle
  • Create client-facing deliverables including user personas, sitemaps, wireframes, usability audits, heuristic evaluations, usability testing reports, user scenarios, flows, and prototypes
  • Create compelling interactions and experiences that support desired user behaviors
  • Create intuitive administrative user experiences that enable clients to easily update and maintain web content using a CMS back-end
  • Proficiency with wire framing and prototyping tools (ie. Adobe Illustrator, OmniGraffle, Axure, etc.)
  • Experience working with open source technologies and public facing government websites a Plus
  • Work both independently and collaboratively in an agile, deadline-driven environment
  • Document interviews, focus groups, workshops, and other discovery activities
  • Excellent written, verbal, client service, and presentation skills
  • Excellent analytical and process-oriented skills
  • Strong work ethic and ability to self-manage tasks

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience supporting DHS USCIS
  • Experience with supporting remote unique complex DHS systems to the US Government strongly desired.
  • Good oral and written communications skills with experience in delivering/presenting to customer  
  • Experience with development and deployment into cloud environment

Education:

  • 7+ Years of experience with Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent

Clearance:

  • Must have Active Public Trust

Location:

  • Washington, DC

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc.
  • Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of time

 Work Environment:

  • Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area
  • The noise level in this environment is low to moderate
