Job Description

Job Summary

Seeking an entry-level Embedded Systems Engineer with up to 5 years of technical experience to become an integral member of the engineering team dedicated to embedded systems development.  Primary activities will include embedded systems design and corresponding design of test software and hardware, developing firmware for both microcontroller and FPGA based systems, creating circuit board schematics, and performing system test and verification.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Design and develop firmware for embedded systems
• Design and implement electronic circuits
• Design, implement, and simulate FPGA design
• Integrate, test, troubleshoot, and verify hardware & firmware
• Develop test criteria and assist in the design of test systems including test software applications
• Perform component and architecture trade studies to determine optimal system solutions
• Perform solder rework of circuit card assemblies
• Design and build cable assemblies
• Generate design and interface documentation
• Document and present trade studies, analyses, test results, status, etc. to the team





Skills/Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Working knowledge of digital circuit design
• Experience in microcontroller programming in C
• Experience in FPGA design and verification
• Experience with common communication interfaces such as WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, RS-232/422/485, SPI and I2C, and protocols such as TCP and     UDP
• Understanding of memory devices and technologies such as SRAM, SDRAM,  and Flash
• Proficiency with common lab equipment such as o-scopes, multi-meters, power supplies, and soldering
• Strong documentation and writing skills

Experience with the following a plus:

• Autonomous vehicles and associated software/hardware (MOOS IvP,  navigation systems, electric motors, battery systems)
• VHDL, Intel’s Quartus development environment, and Nios soft-core processors
• TI’s Code Composer Studio and Eclipse-based development environments
• ARM-based microcontrollers and real-time operating systems
• Schematic entry using OrCAD Capture
• Analog signal conditioning, data acquisition, and power regulators
• Git version control

Education/Experience

• BS in Computer Engineering or similar degree
• Up to 5 years of experience

Must be a U.S. Citizen. 

 

This position requires the applicant to obtain and maintain a DoD Clearance.
