Progeny has an opening for a System Safety Engineer to be located in Manassas, VA or Middletown, RI. The selected candidate will join a highly talented team responsible for developing the state of the art Common Weapon Launcher (CWL) for both the US and Australian Submarine Navies.

Duties and Responsibilities 

• Perform system safety analysis for all design changes made to the CWL hardware and software 
• Identify and track program hazards and risks
• Prepare and update Safety Assessment Reports (SARs)
• Prepare Technical Data Packages and presentation materials in support of Safety Review Board Reviews including the Weapon System Explosive Safety Review Board (WSESRB) and Software Systems Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP)
• Maintain the program system safety documentation
• Participate in programmatic meetings including design reviews, code reviews, and Configuration Control Board (CCB) meetings

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills 
• Must be an analytical thinker
• Experience is not required but applicants with any of the following are desired:

• Experience operating, maintaining, testing, or analyzing weapons systems or software systems 
• Experience conducting System Engineering Analysis, System Safety Analysis, Risk Management and/or Hazard Analysis 
• Experience with MIL-STD-882E and the Joint Software Systems Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH)
• Experience working with US Navy combat systems or platforms 

B.S. in Engineering or a related technical field. Weapon safety experience or relevant military experience may be substituted for a degree.

This position requires the applicant to obtain and maintain a DoD Clearance.
