Job Description

Buyer position available to handle day-to-day purchases in a fast paced, quick turnaround environment in support of production.  The ideal candidate must be capable of understanding technical requirements and communicate technical requirements to vendors. The position is in a solid, growing defense environment and working daily with inter-company contract administration, engineers and program managers.

Responsibilities:  Solicit bids, analyzes quotes, conducts cost/price analyses, negotiates price, and selects suppliers in relation to specifications, quantity, quality, delivery commitment, price, past performance, and knowledge of the supplier, government regulations, and established corporate purchasing policies and procedures. 

Documents and maintains purchase order files and folders. 

Be able to follow up and expedite orders placed. 

Work well with the Procurement Team, Contracts Administration and Program Management. 

Primary focal point for communications/negotiations with supply vendors. 

Assure delivery commitments are met. 

Source and assist in the qualification of new suppliers as needed. 

Negotiates terms and conditions as required.






Skills/Requirements

Requirements:

Prefer strong experience in ERP/MRP enterprise systems and data entry skills. 

Purchasing experience in a prime defense contracting environment and knowledge of U.S. Government acquisition regulations (FAR, DFAR, ITAR, etc.), understanding the flow-down requirements from the prime contract flowing down to the supplier. 

Strong problem solving skills and resolution skills. 

Strong negotiating skills in regards to pricing and delivery. 

Be competent in understanding the technical requirements of the purchase order, and communicating those requirements to the supplier. 

Some level of technical knowledge of printed circuit boards, circuit card and cable assemblies, and related electronic components preferred. 

Be well equipped to work independently. 

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Education/Experience:

3+ years experience in electronics or industrial purchasing, preferably in a defense environment. 

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent applicable experience. 

Experience with ERP/MRP enterprise level systems, and proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).  Experience with government accounting and acquisition systems/practices (FAR, DFAR, CPSR, etc.)  

 

Applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance.
