Job Description
A Lead First-Year Mentor (FYM) is a student who assists in the management of the FYM team during the New Student Orientation Program and assists the Director of Campus Life with training. They are student leaders who represent diverse backgrounds and fields of study and will fulfill the responsibilities of assisting with the planning and implementation of Spring Training, Fall Training, Enrollment Days, and Orientation.



Lead FYMs will be able to demonstrate the following: communication, public speaking, organization, independence, initiative on tasks, professionalism, teamwork, and be a positive representative of Friends University. Lead FYMs must have previously been an FYM and must maintain at least a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and be in good standing with Friends University. Lead FYMs are required to meet with the Director of Campus Life on a weekly basis or as deemed necessary. The Lead FYMs may be asked to assist a Friends Experience class. 

Days/Hours:

The following are dates and events that the Lead FYM will need to attend and/or assist with:

  • POSSIBLY: NODA Region IV Conference
    • March 15-17 (Arkansas)
  • FYM Interviews
    • TBD (assist with interviewing potential FYMs)
  • Spring Retreat
  • TBD (You will need to make arrangements prior to the retreat to accommodate your work schedule, practice schedule, etc.)
  • Enrollment
    • The Lead FYMs need to be available for these dates in Late Spring-Summer
    • April 4
    • April 26
    • May 23
    • June 17
    • July 15
    • August 8
  • Summer/Fall Training
    • August 12-15
  • Spring/Fall Orientation
    • August 16-19
    • January 11, 2020 (Tentative)
