Job Description

Athens Technical College in Athens, Georgia, seeks a part-time lab assistant for the General Education and Online Learning (GEOL) Division to assist with speech classes at Hart County High School in Hartwell, Georgia.

The  part-time Lab Assistant reports to the Dean of the General Education and Online Learning Division and is employed on a per-semester basis. 

Responsibilities:

The Laboratory Assistant works with minimal supervision to direct students and will be responsible for diagnosing and troubleshooting software and hardware-related problems in a classrooms where GEOL division courses are being held. The successful applicant will be responsible for fulfilling non-teaching activities; manage all aspects of the classroom supervision; adhere to all rules; demonstrate basic knowledge of classroom procedure; be familiar with the syllabus and addendum for the class; act as a proctor for tests and exams; use and maintain appropriate records; evaluate students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives; prepare and maintain required documentation for administrative reports; participate in institutional activities in support of Athens Technical College; assist in recruiting for the college; maintain knowledge of current trends; attend required meetings; and perform other duties as assigned.

Skills/Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in speech, communications, or a related field.
  • Strong communication skills and work ethic.
  • Willingness to work at Hart County High School in Hartwell, Georgia.
  • Willingness to assist students in using all college approved methods (Ex. face to face, online, audio / video, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience providing technical support and student assistance.
  • Proficiency with computer hardware and software including the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including mornings and afternoons.
  • Previous experience working at a post-secondary school, preference given to experience working in technical or community colleges.
  • Experience with online teaching platforms; Blackboard preferred.
