Job Description

Athens Technical College in Athens, GA seeks a part- time English Language Civics Instructor for the Adult Education Program on its Walton County campus in Monroe, Georgia. The English Language Civics Instructors are responsible to the ELA Lead instructor for teaching civics education curriculum to adult learners with limited English proficiency. Instruction is based on the individual learner’s needs and goals. 

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success by developing and utilizing instructional strategies that provide instruction to a multi-level class in the areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening with contextualized instruction on rights and responsibilities of citizenship, naturalization procedures, civic participation, U.S. History and Government and EL Civics.

 Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan and implement lessons for assigned classes.
  • Provide EL Civics instructional content aligned with CCRS standards.
  • Maintain and facilitate student attendance records.
  • Assist with student intake and goal setting as needed.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress for the purpose of determining and implementing modifications to the student’s original individualized program of study.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills/Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of one (1) year experience teaching ESL, Civics, Adult Literacy, or other adult education courses.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual and three (3) years teaching experience in ESL.
