Job Description

Friends University is seeking to fill a Student Accounts Representative position in Wichita Kansas.  This position maintains accounts receivable charging and refunding tables and miscellaneous AR functions. Arranges, monitors, and collects current student accounts as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides student customer service (written and verbal) by providing explanations of student account, questions concerning payment arrangements or other general inquiries. Researches, mediates, and resolves student conflicts.  Tracks and follows-up student account payment performance and assures adherence to payment agreement.  Includes extensive written, email, and telephone communication and collection duties.  Performs collection duties by researching and analyzing student account balances and contacting students concerning their delinquent accounts.  Maintains student files on collection process.  Assists students with their account balance questions.  Negotiates disputed accounts.
  • Backs up production of monthly statements to be mailed to all students with outstanding balances.  Creates and maintains accurate charging and refunding tables as well as current documentation of university policy on both.  Checks accounts and statements for accuracy of charging and refunding and requests adjustments when required.
  • Assists Director with projects or as needed.  Provides back up to office personnel during absences.  Performs basic office duties to include greeting visitors, answering phone, directing calls, taking messages, composing and preparing correspondence, creating and maintaining confidential files, organizing manuals, and filing documents.  Attends internal and external meetings or seminars as approved or requested.  Attends training sessions required by the employer and may be tested related to the training to adequately perform the major duties of the position.

Friends University is open 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM Monday to Thursday and 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Friday. This position normally works a 40 hour week within those hours. Longer hours are necessary during registration periods and off-site travel may be required.





Requirements

  • Three years’ experience in accounts receivable and collections required; five years preferred.  Experience with oral presentations, conflict resolution, negotiation, and customer service skills required.  Proficiency in word-processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, and database management skills are also required (Microsoft Office products preferred).
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required, as is additional coursework in business math or related; Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business and/or computer science preferred.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are necessary, as are organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.  Group presentation skills desired, as is the ability to deal with confrontational situations.  Knowledge of office equipment and machines is required.
