Job Description

Friends University is a Christian university of Quaker heritage in Wichita, Kansas. Friends is a vibrant private college that features a number of nationally recognized programs such as Zoo Science, Christian Spiritual Formation, Cyber Security and Fine Arts with an enrollment of approximately 800 undergraduates and 900 adult students.

Friends University athletic program encompasses 18 sports in NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) championship programs, the coaches, assistant coaches, athletic trainers, sports information, and student workers.  The Assistant Athletic Director is responsible for the management and administration of a variety of functions in the athletic department including the management of the Athletic Department Booster Club, game day management, compliance and eligibility, and facility management. 

Responsibilities:

  • Organize and administer all activities related to NAIA and KCAC compliance and compliance training for athletic department.  Work with Administrative Assistant on eligibility for Athletic Director to certify, monitor coaches activities relative to NAIA rules and regulations, complete all required NAIA and KCAC forms, work effectively cross-departmentally to ensure proper knowledge and understanding of NAIA rules of advisors, academic support staff, and registrar’s office.
  • In collaboration with the Athletic Director, develop Athletic Department Booster Club that extends the reach of Friends University Athletics, maintains relationship with alumni and other constituents, and creates a revenue stream for the department.   Assist in other fundraising and sponsorship efforts as needed.
  • Home athletic event game management of assigned home athletic events that create a fun, wholesome, and professional environment.
  • Perform day-to-day oversight of athletic department facilities to maintain proper care, keep facilities clean, and submit timely maintenance requests.
  • Provide strong collaborative leadership for Friends University Athletics that creates an environment that is student-centered that focuses on furthering the mission of Friends University.  Participates in various community service projects and University events and serves on Friends University committees as requested by the Athletic Director and University President.  Other duties as assigned as related to daily operations.

Work hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.  May include evening and/or weekend hours.





Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred.  Emphasis in Higher Education Administration, Business Administration, Sports Administration, Accounting, Student Services or related field.

At least two years of administrative experience in intercollegiate athletics is required, preferably at the NAIA level. 

Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are required.  The ability to work with diverse populations is required. 

Ability to maintain confidential information in a professional manner is required. Will support the Christian mission and values of Friends University and the values of the NAIA Champions of Character.  Must be able to carry and/or lift a minimum of 35 pounds. Strong management and organization skills are required.  The ability to compile data and prepare, write, and review reports is required; must have excellent computer skills and the ability to learn compliance systems.
