Job Description:

Progeny has an opening for a Software Safety Engineer to be located in either Middletown, RI or Manassas, VA. The selected candidate will join a highly talented team responsible for developing high reliability / high availability Combat Control Weapon Systems in support of the U.S. Submarine Navy.

Duties and Responsibilities 

• Assists with software safety plans and other safety related documentation
• Collaborates with the program safety lead to ensure that all required software safety processes are documented, implemented, and verified
• Ensures that the software safety requirements are clearly identified and tracked
• Performs software safety code analysis to determine which areas of the software are related to safety
• Ensures that safety critical software functions are tracked and that risks are eliminated or mitigated
• Ensures that safety critical functions are tested to the appropriate level of rigor
• Participates in programmatic meetings including design reviews, code reviews, and Configuration Control Board (CCB) meetings
• Participates in weapon software system safety meetings (WSESRB, SSSTRP)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with Java or C++ is required
• Experience with VHDL is a plus
• Experience with weapon systems is a plus
• Experience with Software Safety, MIL-STD-882E, and the Joint Software Systems Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH) is highly desired
• Experience with the software development life cycle (requirements, design, implementation, and test) is highly desired

Education/Experience

B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience 

This position require the applicant to obtain and maintain a DoD Clearance.
