Job Description

Friends University is seeking to fill a Senior Programmer / Analyst position in Wichita, KS. This position supports the overall information system needs of the University, but is primarily focused on the delivery, maintenance and enhancement of the University ERP system, Ellucian Banner®.  The incumbent combines software development and business analyst skills to assist end-users with administration of one or more ERP system modules and related applications.  Leads and assists with the installation, documentation, upgrade and modification of in-house or vendor-developed computer programs, reports, software applications and enterprise-class information systems according to industry best practices.  Routinely interacts with end users to solve problems and determine appropriate courses of action, including end-user training.  Works closely with the Director to ensure that cross training and skills development of Administrative Computing personnel is achieved.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, codes, tests, documents, installs, maintains and supports computer programs or software applications related to the university’s information systems utilizing programming tools, reporting tools, database tools or third party supplied tools.  Evaluates new technology.
  • Applies knowledge of university business processes, software applications, computer programs and user input on projects to best meet university needs including, but not limited to, the University ERP system.  This can include custom interfaces between various systems, websites, portals, mobile technologies and other platforms for the delivery of information to students, faculty, staff and administration.  
  • Assists in analyzing individual and departmental needs to determine project feasibility and time requirements.  Attends meetings as related to the administrative computing systems, both internal and with end-users as a group and individually. 
  • Provides documentation and on-going training to the campus community.
  • Provides mentoring and on-going training for Administrative Computing Group employees to effectively and efficiently meet University needs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.




Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, business administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Three years’ experience with Oracle relational databases, SQL, PL/SQL and a high level programming language required.  Knowledge of Java, JavaScript, Groovy, CSS, HTML and report-writing tools highly desired. Experience with Oracle GRID and Oracle application server technologies highly desired.  Linux/UNIX and Windows server experience highly desired.  Ability to develop and deliver training materials to a variety of audiences is required.

Three years higher education and Banner ERP experience required, four or more years preferred.

Experience with Microsoft Office products.  Ability to operate computer equipment and software including word-processing, spreadsheets and internal databases for record keeping and communication purposes.

Working knowledge of all office equipment, including, but not limited to, personal computer, copier, fax machine and telephone.

Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are required.
