Job Description

Friends University invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Health and Physical Education, to begin in August 2018.  This position is a tenure-track, nine-month appointment and reports to the Chair of the Division of Education.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to coordinate and manage an innovative program in physical education and health, and hold a valid PK-12 teaching license in physical education.  A minimum of 3 years of successful PK-12 teaching experience in an accredited school and experience in supervision of field experiences/internships are required, as is evidence of instructional excellence and scholarly activity.  Applicants should be prepared to teach courses in physical education, elementary/secondary education methods courses, and health.  Review of applicants begins December 1, 2017 and will continue until the position is filled.

EXPECTATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with other instructors to ensure the academic needs of the division are met. 
  • Participation in appointed committee assignments, student academic advising, and recruitment activities within the division.
  • Advise students in the Health and Physical Education major 
  • Demonstrate both a passion for, and effectiveness in, teaching, with a strong commitment to student interaction. 
  • Teach a regular load of classes each semester, per the faculty handbook.
  • Advise candidates in the physical education licensure and non-licensure degree programs




REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Physical Education

Rank and salary are commensurate with education and experience.

Positive consideration will be given to evidence of research, the demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships, practical experience in the field, and experience in multicultural settings.
