Job Description

Athens Technical College in Athens, Georgia, seeks a full-time Distance Education & Outreach Librarian to promote and implement emerging information technology for the integration of library services with regard to distance education and face-to-face instruction, working mostly from the Elbert County campus. This person reports to the Director of Library Services.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain the library’s virtual presence including website, LibGuides, chat and texting services, and social media sites, and enhance these resources through collaboration with internal and external partners to develop innovative services.
  • Oversee library services at the Elbert County campus including supervising student assistants and providing instruction, reference, and circulation.
  • Coordinate library services of one additional branch library.
  • Share responsibility for teaching library instruction classes on the Athens and satellite campuses as needed.
  • Work Fridays and in the Saturday schedule rotation on the Athens campus and help provide reference and circulation services.
  • Provide reports and statistics to the Director of Library Services as needed.

Skills & Requirements

The preferred candidate will have a master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA accredited program. Knowledge of emerging information technologies and demonstrated use of web-authoring tools, LibGuides, and social networking software in library environments is expected. Proven abilities in designing and delivering discipline-related instructional sessions preferred.  Knowledge of or experience with the ANGEL learning management system or other online instruction is helpful. The successful candidate will display strong written and oral communication, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills and be self-motivated and able to work independently.
