Job Description

Athens Technical College in Athens, GA seeks to hire part-time campus police officers for our Elbert County Campus. The police officer will be required to provide protection of life and property through the enforcement of established laws and the policies of Athens Technical College. The police officer will perform within accordance of all federal, state, county, and municipal laws, as well as college policies. The police officer will be responsible for providing high visibility uniformed patrols, general campus safety and security work on the grounds and facilities. The officer will ensure the students and staff members are safe and will protect against loss, damage, and violence. The officer will implement the campus emergency plan when applicable and monitor and enforce traffic and parking regulations.


  • Patrol the campus and buildings on foot and/or in a vehicle in order to deter crime, provide safety, security and assistance to students, staff and visitors on campus
  • Enforce traffic and parking regulations.
  • Investigate disturbances, suspicious circumstances, traffic accidents or violation of college regulations when prompted by phone calls, alarms, citizens' requests, or officers' observations. Talk with individuals to determine causes of disturbances or accidents.
  • Take reports and accurately complete forms to record incidents.
  • Direct traffic at campus events using barricades, traffic cones, traffic vests, and flashlights.
  • Must be familiar with the campus safety manual and be able to address emergencies on campus.
  • Participate in training activities.
  • Perform related work as assigned.
  • Work closely with the Director of Security, Campus Administrators and Security Officers.

Skills & Requirements

  • Must be Georgia POST Certified with Basic Law Enforcement Mandate and in "Good Standing".
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must maintain annual certification requirements

Employment as a member of the City of Elberton Police Department is mandatory and required as a condition of employment as a campus police officer at Athens Technical College, Elbert Campus.
