Job Summary

Evaluates and tests software programs to verify that programs function according to specifications and standards.  Work with Quality Assurance and Development teams in an agile environment to find software defects, validate code, create and maintain test cases as well as learn and teach new functionality.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identifies, analyzes, and documents defects, questionable functions, errors, and inconsistencies in software program functions, outputs, online screens, and content
  • Creates test cases and test data
  • System test programs, verifying that all affected areas still perform as expected, to minimize new issues created by an enhancement, release or patch
  • Establish benchmarks for program efficiency in operating and response times
  • Contribute to establishment of standards, efficiency and procedures for program design and testing
  • Setup and configuration of testing environments
  • Increase application and database structure knowledge by testing issues in all areas of the system
  • Participate in a Development/QA team that is responsible for developing quality software.
  • Work independently to ensure tasks are completed and commit dates are met, without prompting or reminders, by running personal or team assignment list daily
  • Review and contribute to software program documentation
  • Provide training and support to other teams within NEWSCYCLE Solutions new features

Skills & Requirements

  • Bachelors in Computer Science or equivalent degree or five or more years of experience working with the publishing and/or software industries
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Microsoft Windows (client & server), Mac OS
  • Experience with HTML, SQL, Java Script, Adobe InDesign, InCopy and InDesign Server, a plus.
  • Possess an understanding of database structure
  • Knowledge of Agile software development methodology preferred
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Good verbal/written communication skills

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time, viewing computer screen and data at close range
  • Availability for possible infrequent travel
