BBYO is the leading pluralistic, Jewish teen movement and has been providing exceptional leadership programs and identity enrichment experiences for 90 years. We offer year-round activities in hundreds of local communities and inspiring world-wide travel experiences enabling teens to explore areas of leadership, service, civic engagement, Israel education and Jewish values.

Position Summary:        

The Development Department focuses on three campaigns: major giving, Friends and Alumni Network (grassroots local and annual giving), and planned giving. Through these campaigns, BBYO raises over $10 million annually to support teen programming. BBYO is hiring a Major Gifts Associate, who will provide support to our growing major gifts operation. The position is based in BBYO’s International Office in Washington, DC, but will also support our team with professionals around the country.


·         Manage the infrastructure of the major giving process:

o    Identify prospects (donors and foundations) through preliminary research and lists of internal data

o    Collect and compile prospect names that come through outside sources

o    Perform the majority of BBYO’s major gift prospect research, while also assigning and managing others on the team who are responsible for research

o    Maintain appropriate coding of prospects as they move through the program; pull all prospect reports for meetings and reviews of prospects

o    Collect and record all required information from Major Gift Officers about prospects

·         Expand, improve and maintain BBYO’s development presence on the web to increase overall traffic to the development portal. FAN portal and regional websites:

o    Work with development staff to maintain FAN presence on all regional websites

o    Collect and track information that comes in through BBYO’s website

o    Maintain “Friends Asking Friends” feature to be more user friendly

o    Oversee and maintain integration of the digital time capsule for FAN events; develop best practices and strategies behind using this tool

o    Manage online resource portal

§  Maintain letter templates in print and email form for FAN and major giving

§  Produce FAN one-pagers and other turnkey materials

·         Assist the development team with grant reports and proposals: 

o    Write some proposals for local funding and provide any needed supplemental resources

o    Write grant reports for current grants from foundations giving national support

·         Support the development team in major giving initiatives as they arise (i.e. stakeholder engagement at International Convention, including major donors/prospects retreat and FAN Leaders retreat)



  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1-2 years of professional experience preferred
  • Process- and detail-oriented
  • Considers themselves a strategic, thoughtful and good writer
  • Ability to work on several projects with multiple people simultaneously
  • Knowledge of donor databases and/or Excel would be helpful but not required 
  • Learns quickly and uses technology to enhance job performance
  • Interest in working in a dynamic and fast-growing development operation
