Essential duties and responsibilities: The goal of this position is to build relations with current and prospective donors, businesses and others who support MNTC with the goal of advancing the organization. The Development Director will be responsible for all aspects of the fundraising program; identify, solicit, and cultivate a diverse funding mix from individuals, major gifts, foundations, businesses and other avenues. The

Development Director reports directly to the MNTC-Rochester Center Director and leads the growth of a comprehensive fundraising program. The major areas of responsibility include preparing and implementing the development plan which entails strategies for revenue development through annual, major, and planned giving; identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors; management of annual giving campaigns; special events and marketing, foundation and government grants; and coaching board and staff on how best to maximize their fundraising success.


• Develop and execute MNTC’s annual fundraising plan

• Secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations

• Manage the implementation of Raiser's Edge and oversee staff responsible for data entry and gift processing

• Create and execute a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors

• Oversee organization/ensure maximum donor participation in special events

• Develop and tracking proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising

• Explore new/evaluate existing initiatives that advance the funding development goals

• Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors

• Create new relationship opportunities through regional events in Southern MN

• Possess working knowledge of basic marketing tools

Key Metrics:

• Financial goal attainment of supervised areas

• Maximized donor participation at events

• Goal of 100% donor retention


Skills & Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• BA (required)

• 3+ years experience in development/fundraising preferred

• Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills

• Strong/personal knowledge of Rochester/So.MN community (individuals, businesses, foundations)

• Knowledge/proficiency of Raiser's Edge, Microsoft WORD, Excel, Outlook programs

• Fundraising or sales experience with documented results

• Ability to maintain and grow individual and organizational relationships

• Excellent written and verbal skills; individual and group presentations skills

• Ease with personal and phone solicitation

• Process oriented, but results-driven

• Resourceful, hard-working, bold, able to “anticipate” in all circumstances, and react accordingly

• Willingness to “fail”, but persevere; big-picture focused

• Possession of a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record that will be accepted by this organization’s vehicle insurance carrier
