Job Description

Patrick Engineering is looking for a dynamic Technical Project Manager to join our talented Power and Energy Team and be in charge of our Columbus, Ohio office.  The Technical Project Manager will be a key member of a project team and is responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of power distribution, generation, and substation projects.  He/she will lead all technical aspects of the electrical engineering design tasks as well as lead a team of several engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Managing projects and performing technical assignments.
  • Prepare written scopes of work, developing budgets, and scheduling work.  You will be expected to actively work with other project managers/engineers/staff to monitor and improve project performance.
  • Work closely with our management team and the existing electrical team.
  • Pursue electrical services opportunities in both the public and private sector.
  • Communicate and work with other business development managers and marketing staff to grow the business in Ohio.
  • Lead electrical design calculations and directing other staff engineers.
  • Assist in acquiring new staff for the Columbus office.
  • Actively participate in professional societies and business organizations to network with potential clients and future hires.
  • Visit and entertain clients as permissible by rules, regulations and ethics.
  • Lead electrical system analysis using SKM and ETAP power systems Analysis.
  • Lead field investigations and documentation of existing conditions.
  • Lead and supervise electrical system analysis performed by staff using hand calculations and computer software.
  • Interface and collaborate with project managers and senior staff on design solutions.

Skills & Requirements

Proficiency

  • Proficient with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) Accelerator.
  • Experience with SKM Systems Analysis Software required.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of ArcFlash Analysis is required.
  • Knowledge of electrical power distribution systems and (switchgear, motor controls centers, circuit breakers, etc.).
  • Familiarity with electrical load flow, voltage DIP and short circuit calculation methodology is required.
  • Strong computer skills, specifically in the area of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Strong technical written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to clearly communicate concepts and ideas
  • Self-starter who can work independently or part of a multi-discipline team

Education/Skills/Knowledge

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering  (Focused on Power Systems)
  • 8 to 12 years of power systems experience
  • Professional Engineering License is required
  • Demonstrate knowledge of SKM/power systems analysis
  • Demonstrate ability to program Protective Relays for transformers, bus differential and feeder protection with some exposure to transmission protection settings
  • Knowledgeable in the areas of substation equipment and structures, electrical clearances, grounding, foundations, conduits, duct packages, panel layouts, etc.
  • The ability to lead physical substation design of on-site projects ranging from 480v-13kv
  • Strong understanding of symmetrical components and relaying
  • Excellent technical communication skills
