Founded in 1965, KanPak(r) LLC began as a family-owned dairy company, based in Arkansas City, KS. From the beginning, KanPak has led the way in the development of aseptic processing and packaging for beverages and desserts. In 1983, KanPak was one of the first companies in North America to qualify, process and aseptically package low acid foods.

KanPak continued to grow and expand, creating some of the most successful new product introductions in the foodservice industry.

In 2011, Golden State Foods became partners in KanPak China, with the combined companies continuing to expand their product offering and bring on new customers in China and throughout Asia. This success culminated in 2013 with Golden State Foods acquiring controlling interest in KanPak LLC, and eventually acquiring the balance of KanPak LLC in 2016 with KanPak LLC becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Golden State Foods.

The newest addition to the KanPak facility line-up is in Penn Yan, NY. Acquired in December of 2014, the plant has liquid aseptic processing as well as yogurt capabilities, and provides a second North American facility to service the North East region.

Job Description

We are seeking an energetic, skilled Project Engineer in Penn Yan, NY.

The Project Engineer utilizes sound engineering principles to plan, manage, own and execute capital projects that enhance safety, quality and profitability for the KanPak, Penn Yan plant. Responsibilities include project scoping and design, project management, bid solicitation, managing contractors and ensuring the successful implementation and completion of projects. This position builds relationships and coordinates closely across departments to ensure accurate planning, scheduling and financial reporting. Stays abreast of new technology and developments in the production and packaging environment to best serve the objectives of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to develop and control the Capital Program.
    • Provide efficient planning and communications to ensure that the Capital Plan meets the company needs.
    • Own and develop the Capital Program to streamline its efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Manage all KanPak projects from start to finish.
  • Provide sound engineering principles to facilitate the execution of the projects.
    • Review equipment needs with all departments to optimize our performance.
    • Review with maintenance needs to provide consistent utilities and structure.
    • Work closely with accounting to ensure proper cost control and documentation of capital assets.
    • Keep abreast of new technology and equipment upgrades, to recommend new ideas.
    • Provide leadership with all projects to achieve the manufacturing, safety & security, quality, and financial goals of KanPak.
  • Manage Contractors
    • Ensure that all safety policies and procedures are complied with by outside contractors.
    • Initiate/review bid packages for multiple vendors to provide competitive costs.
    • Obtain proper documentation that the contractor is qualified to do the job at hand.
    • Reviews work with contractors to insure work is done to specifications and written procedures.
  • Manage Equipment
    • Designs and/or specifies equipment that meets the requirement of Operations, Sanitation, Food Safety, Maintenance and Safety.
    • Develops designs that utilizes standard, off the shelf components whenever possible.
    • Ensure that all new equipment is properly guarded, safe to operate, and meets OSHA standards.
    • Reviews equipment needs with vendors and manufacturers to insure performance and proper application.
    • Update building drawings to include any new modifications.
    • Facilitate training and documentation for employees on any new equipment.
Skills & Requirements


  • B.S. degree in an engineering field.
  • 7+ years of experience as a Project Engineer.  Proven ability to plan and manage multiple projects on-time and under budget.
  • Excellent knowledge of design and visualization software such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, etc
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the safe design, sanitary design, food processing equipment, and packaging equipment is desired.  Familiar with best practices for food manufacturing and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of electrical power, hydraulics, pneumatics, and facility design is desired.
  • Strong project management skills and proven ability to manage multiple projects on-time and under budget.
  • Aptitude for working collaboratively with multiple disciplines within teams and projects.
