Job Description

Empire Merchants North is the premier wine and spirits distributor in Upstate New York with roots going back to the end of Prohibition. Seeking Driver Helper / Part-time Warehouse Associate with a solid work history. Will assist drivers making deliveries throughout the day.


Perform a variety of warehouse/shipping duties requiring ability to lift 50+ lbs. repeatedly.  Use of 2 wheeled cart with 200lb loads necessary.

HS diploma/GED required.

Days are:

  • Tuesday 
  • Wednesday - on call / as needed
  • Thursday 
  • Friday
     

Hours:  Start time will be between 7:00 -8:00am / 8-10 hours per day

POSITION SUMMARY

Driver helpers are used to assist the driver with high case count loads and will be used to assist the driver on select routes.

ESSENTIAL POSITION RESULTS

• Assist the driver in the truck on any small stops (less than 30 cases) by organizing the back of the truck, separate stops
• Help the driver by stacking and loading cases onto the handcart. 
• The helper is to remain with the truck on all small stops below 30 cases.
• The driver helper may, at the drivers request, alternate with the driver in wheeling handcarts of product into the customers location when the stop has a case count higher than 30 cases, as long as one stays with the truck.
• The helper will not be responsible for the following: customer interaction, delivery paperwork, customer signature collection, or COD collection. These Functions rest solely with the driver.

Education, Certifications and /or licenses:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.


Experience:

• None
Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to associates. 
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. 
• Basic understanding of shipping/receiving and inventory control principals.
• Ability to multi-task, work independently and/or within a team, pays attention to detail and meet deadlines.

The associate is frequently required to walk, bend and lift. The associate is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell.  The associate must regularly move up to 10 pounds, frequently move from 25 - 60 pounds, and occasionally move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision and Depth perception.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions and vibration.  The associate is exposed to normal traffic situations.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
