Job Description

Empire Merchants North is the premier wine and spirits distributor in Upstate New York with roots going back to the end of Prohibition. Empire Merchants North employs over 650 associates in five upstate NY locations and distributes approximately five million cases per year. EMN is the only major locally owned distributorship in upstate New York.
 

We are seeking a Delivery Driver - Full-time in our Cheektowaga, NY facility.


Pay: $20.50/hour

POSITION SUMMARY

Delivers customers’ orders by driving delivery truck over established route and collecting appropriate payments.

ESSENTIAL POSITION RESULTS

• Determines condition of vehicle by inspecting vehicle before and after use; logging inspection; reporting requirements.
• Maintains safe vehicle and conditions and protects load by complying with organization policies, procedures, highway rules and regulations.
• Distributes spirits and wine by driving delivery truck to specific customers.
• Unloads truck by use of hand truck, dolly or pallet jack.
• Reconciles customers’ invoice by collecting COD as specified on invoice and recording transactions on company and customer receipt.
• Records daily deliveries by completing delivery records as needed.
• Provides customer service by listening and resolving customer concerns. 
• Collects product returns by obtaining customers’ signature on receipt for pick up or delivery.
• Maintains records by completing DOT driver log.
• Maintains appearance of delivery truck by daily cleaning of the inside of the truck cab and box.
• Reports and requests routine truck maintenance by completing written maintenance request form.
• Performs duties in a safe manner by following established safety rules and regulations.
• Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential. 
• Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Skills & Requirements

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position REQUIRES the following:

* Must have a valid, clean NYS CDL-B or A driver's license with safe driving history.
* Must have a HS Diploma or GED. 


Requires adherence to all DOT requirements.

Perform a variety of warehouse/shipping duties requiring ability to lift 50+ lbs. repeatedly over a 10 hour shift. Use of 2 wheeled cart with up to 200lb loads necessary.  During slower times of the year, this position may be work inside the warehouse in lieu of delivering product.

Experience:

• 1 to 2 years related delivery experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Knowledge/Skills:

• Must have general knowledge of DOT regulations and proven history of safe driving.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to associates. 
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. 
• Basic understanding of shipping/receiving and inventory control principals.
• Ability to multi-task, work independently and/or within a team, pays attention to detail and meet deadlines.

While performing the duties of this Job, the associate is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The associate is frequently required to walk, bend and lift. The associate is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell.  The associate must regularly move up to 10 pounds, frequently move from 25 - 60 pounds, and occasionally move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision and Depth perception.


WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions and vibration.  The associate is exposed to normal traffic situations.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
