Sets up, adjusts and operates CNC controlled machining centers to perform a series of progressive operations on to close and exacting tolerances and finish specifications requiring considerable skill, general knowledge of machining techniques, methods and familiarity with numerically controlled machine tool operational procedures. Works from programming, operational data and setup instructions defining and coding tool arrangements, fixturing, material clamping methods and control settings. May operate multiple machines simultaneously or operate machines configured in a cell system arrangement. Able to operate loading and unloading systems such as pallet storage systems or robotic equipment that feed maching systems.
Works from part drawings, specifications, setup and work instructions, job and routing tickets, handbooks, verbal and written orders, etc. Uses micrometers, scale, protractor, caliber, CMM vernier, surface guages and indicatos, etc. to make setups and check work. Will generally do all part inspection methods and statistical process control (SPC) as required. Logs inspections as required.
Recognizes and reports technical variations in program and operation of sequences, tool settings, dimensional and finish deviations, and assists with or individuallly makes corrective adjustments within prescribed limits.
