JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE:  Under the direction of the Manager of Industrial Engineering, the Industrial Engineer oversees and ensures the accurate and timely completion and updating of routings, B.O.M.s, work standards, plant layouts and site plan drawings, ensures the tracking of company assets, and prepares cost estimates for new parts or processes, in accordance with company policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Prioritize, schedule and delegate work assignments, and directly supervise the industrial engineering staff to ensure the accurate and timely completion and updating of routings, B.O.M.s, work standards, plant layouts and site plan drawings, the tracking of company assets, and the preparation of cost estimates for new parts or processes.
  • Oversee and ensure the timely and accurate maintenance of routings and B.O.M.s for   manufactured parts.
  • Oversee and establish the production standards for hourly production jobs.  Recommend corrections and improvements when needed.
  • Maintain the site plan drawings of buildings, utilities, parking lots, etc.
  • Maintain the plant layout drawings for the machining facilities.  Prepare proposals by manufacturing engineering for moving equipment.
  • Assist in compiling quotations for developing new assembly lines and processes for new products.
  • Oversee the tagging and tracking of company assets.
  • Maintain software and spreadsheets used in establishing and tracking manufacturing standards, routings, B.O.M.s and assets.
  • Ensure the accurate filing and tracking of new construction drawings.
  • Prepare cost estimates for proposed changes to determine cost savings in "what if" situations.
  • Participate on cross functional teams to ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of processes, methods, productivity and quality, while reducing costs.Act as a technical resource to the department and other departments to address and resolve inquiries and problems.
  • Maintain technical competency and remain current in changes in technology and in the industry.
  • Ensure the completion of all required records, paperwork, documents, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and work rules and regulations.  Ensure the maintenance of departmental housekeeping standards.

                       MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  Assist in installing and testing SAP integrated                                          manufacturing software.

                       Assist in tagging assets.

                      SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in                                     accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include                           interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work;                                 appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and                       resolving problems.

                      PROTECTIVE CLOTHING/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:  Requires the use of safety glasses                       and shoes, and hearing protection when in the manufacturing areas.

                      EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  Requires a bachelor's degree, preferably in                                     engineering, and three to five years of related experience; or an associate degree and six                         to eight years of progressively responsible related experience; or a combination of                                     education and experience.

                      LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals,                       professional journals, technical procedures, or gover1llllental regulations. Ability to write                             reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present                           information and respond to questions from managers and other employees of the                                       organization.

                      MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability                       and statistical inference, and fundamentals of algebra, calculus, geometry and                                           trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and                                     proportions to practical situations.

                      REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of                                 concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret                       a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

                      CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  Requires a valid drivers license.

                      OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Requires the ability to operate a stop-watch, a video                           camera, VCR, a variety of small hand and power tools, and a tape measure. Requires the                         ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as a computer and                                   keyboard, a calculator, telephone, blueprint machine, FAX, photocopier, etc.
