Job Description

The Coiler Operator receives copper rod from mill section, cleaning-maintaining pickling and quench areas, maintaining stock levels, maintaining chemicals and lubricants up to parameters and making adjustments, improving of areas to better safety-quality-production, maintaining equipment to keep productivity and quality as per parameters.

 

Essential Functions/Job Requirements:

  • Take and receive copper from wire mill section.
  • May assist with or be responsible for: taking process readings and making any necessary process changes; proper and safe handling of process reagents
  • Maintain support equipment such as waxing equipment
  • Maintain minimum stock levels of consumables at all times
  • May perform start-up and shut-down of casting and coiling area as well as other mill section/related areas-systems
  • May assist with and perform procedures such as switching pumps and taking lab type readings; the loading process which may include weighing and loading coils-stems, communicating with various departments regarding quality or other impactful issues
  • Ability to learn other areas as required to fill in for lunches and breaks
  • Maintain regular work areas to be prepared for housekeeping and safety audits at all times
  • Ability to operate mobile equipment such as forklifts/ man-lifts; operator overhead crane in a safe and productive manner
  • Work well with others, ability to see and work as a team member, do what is needed as it relates to a common goal of making a quality product
  • Willing to complete assignments in a safe and timely manner.
  • Strong work ethic/right attitude towards work
  • May use online electronic process monitoring system to monitor plant systems and equipment/complete data sheets
  • Performs mechanical and lubrication preventive maintenance
  • Mentors and trains fellow employees
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned

Criteria/Conditions

Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety related instructions and procedures given in English

  • Nine (9) months of work experience in an industrial environment
  • Industrial forklift experience
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English 
  • Ability to clearly communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Have the ability and willingness to produce a quality product at an efficient pace
  • Knowledge of mechanical hand tools
  • May be required to complete OSHA and CRANE-RIGGING training course
  • Maintaining forklift license is required as well as using optimum safe driving practices
  • Ability and willingness to complete and use internal/external safety training.
  • Willingness to follow and enforce all safety and environmental rules
  • Ability to complete confined space entry physical, if required, and a respirator fit test.
  • Able to work alone and in a team environment
  • Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work safely with minimal supervision
  • Positive attitude with willingness to learn and become a team player
  • Ability to learn OSHA placard system to accurately identify hazardous materials
    • Mechanically inclined with experience in heavy forklift environment
    • Knowledge of a Filter-Tech filtration systems a plus
    • Knowledge of mill casting, mill rolling or furnace controlling a plus
    • Direct prior experience in a manufacturing environment with multiple pinch points and hot/molten product exposure a plus
    • High school diploma or GED, preferred
    • May be required to work a non-standard schedule which may include shift work (other than day shift) in a 24/7/365 operation in an 8 or 12 hour shift schedule up to 14 days in a row
    • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required when performing work in mill, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
    • Subject to temperature extremes; hot and cold, humidity, dust, noise, fumes and gasses
    • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. Ability to lift (up to 75 lbs.), grasp, twist, kneel, bend over, reach over head and climb stairs as may be required by given task---- at an efficient pace.
