Octo Consulting Group is seeking a Network Specialist to join our growing team in support of a federal customer in Silver Spring, MD.

Responsibilities Include;

  • End-to-end network engineering services
  • Perform design analysis, requirement analysis; investigate alternative solutions, architecture trade-off, make/buy assessments, system capacity analysis, operations concept development, and document results.
  • Evaluate, test, and document commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software and hardware products including development and engineering tools.
  • Coordinate activities at the system interface boundaries with other contractors and Government organizations.
  • Support design reviews for existing and new facilities
  • Test patches, security updates, and new deployments in a lab/development environment prior to introducing any changes to the production environment.
  • Provide system administration for all servers, network equipment, operating systems and applications on the network.
  • Provide input and support for mitigating vulnerability findings from network security scans.
  • Support, maintenance & monitoring of DoD PKI/Common Access Card requirements that is in place or scheduled for implementation. Support and maintenance includes OCSP Software.  Provide PKI support person(s) at multiple locations for such things as, but not limited to, local registration authority duties, installation of CAC readers, and training.
  • Manage LAN and WAN connectivity.  The network handles converged services for applications such as streaming media, Video on Demand (VoD), H.323, Video over IP, and other traffic.
  • Work with the customer to provide recommendations for cost-effective solutions.
  • Ensure that external connectivity is maintained securely through a variety of channels, such as point-to-point links, VPN tunnels, remote access and NIPRNet access. The contractor shall have responsibility for the remote access VPN as it pertains to registered/authorized DCoE network users’ requirements.
  • Perform daily operations activities to include: Syslog review, Event log review, Backup verification, and physical inspections of server rooms and equipment. Daily activities will be performed to ensure the integrity of the network and identify any potential problems. Possible issues will be reported as risks and mitigated in a fashion that is non-intrusive to the production environment, or with proper customer notification and a scheduled downtime.
  • Perform monthly maintenance on the network environment.   Maintenance shall include any necessary and/or routine preventive or ad-hoc services required to assist in maintaining the network security posture and operational readiness.

Skills & Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience
  • Certified IAW DOD 8570.
  • Knowledge of managing government systems preferred
  • Expert knowledge in the following:
  • OCSP Software, SAP, SPSS, MCSE SharePoint, MSFT Specialist (Win 10, SQL)

Other Considerations: This position is W-2 only; no Corp-to-Corp or 1099 candidates. US citizenship is mandatory, per contract clearance requirements. Relocation will not be offered. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation. Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area. The noise level in this environment is low to moderate. Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc. Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of time.
