Job Description

Octo Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Cloud Architect to join our growing team in support of a Federal customer. 

The Senior Cloud Architect is a technology expert who understands the strengths and weaknesses of platforms and solutions and serves as a trusted voice for our team and the client.  With client sponsorship, they develop relationships with IT and Program executives, putting them in position to translate business needs and insights into actionable IT strategy and assist engineering in driving these initiatives to early results and business value. This role requires a deep understanding of business and IT strategy, a disciplined approach to broader architectural challenges and opportunities, and a great grasp of technology and solutions. 


  • Provides subject matter expertise in architecting, developing, integrating and managing systems across DTM applications portfolio.
  • Provides leadership and vision for architecture, design, development of future environments with specific expertise in AWS capabilities and offerings.
  • Implements cloud solutions and applies Agile methodology in leading solutions and ensuring UI/UX design needs are met.
  • Reviews and implements solutions to optimize operations environments while additionally providing guidance and approval of DME project designs and direction

Skills & Requirements

The ideal candidate must be self-motivated with a proven track record in solutions architecture with demonstrated experience in cloud, mobile and web technologies.  Candidate must be organized and analytical, adept at working in a team environment, able to design and implement a project schedule, and able to handle multiple priorities. Additional preferred qualifications:

  • At least 7 years of solution architecture experience
  • Knowledge in web-based systems architecture, service-based architecture, enterprise application architecture as well as experience managing expectations when balancing alternatives against financial & resource constraints
  • Experience with cloud enterprise solutions with working knowledge of cloud architectures
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to understand business requirements and converting them into solution designs
  • Must demonstrate good judgment and pragmatic approach to delivering software that optimizes architecture activities across company needs, business constraints and technological realities
  • Should have participated in, and be familiar with, Agile methodologies and practices
  • Candidates must have a deep understanding of markets, industries, business, customers, and technology. Experience should include a mix of business and technology consulting across the lifecycle of Information Technology (examples may include assessment and analysis, design, business case development, architecture, envisioning, planning, deployment, benefits analysis, and management)
  • Considered an expert in a combination of database and platform application services is a plus
  • Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies and cloud services
  • Preference will be given to candidates that also can build web applications, database, and support skills


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS or equivalent preferred
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or MBA highly desirable
  • AWS Certified (Architect or Practitioner)

Other Considerations: This position is W-2 only; no Corp-to-Corp or 1099 candidates. Relocation will not be offered. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation. Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area. The noise level in this environment is low to moderate. Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc. Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of time.
