Octo Consulting Group is seeking a Human Resource Generalist to join our growing team in Reston, VA. The HR Generalist performs duties at the professional level in some or all of the following functional areas: employee relations, training, employment, affirmative action benefits management, and payroll functions. This position requires an extremely perceptive person who is capable of relating to individuals at all levels within the organization. The generalist must be sensitive to corporate needs, employee goodwill and the business needs.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains all employee and applicant documentation as dictated by governing agencies.
  • Conduct new-employee orientations at headquarters to ensure employees gain an understanding of benefits plans and enrollment provisions. Ensures compliance with USCIS Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification; periodically audits Forms I-9.
  • Maintains employee personnel files.
  • Understands and interprets company policy for employees and managers.
  • Manages and tracks all employee disciplinary action.
  • Updates, monitors and maintains eligible salary adjustments/increases. 
  • Reports, maintains and monitors all unemployment and workers' compensation case files; follows-up on open cases.
  • Administer health and welfare plans, including enrollments and terminations. Process required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record keeping and proper deductions. Serve as the COBRA administrator for the company.
  • Process monthly billings from insurance providers. Review billings for accuracy, codes and advances for payment. Resolve discrepancies with carriers, payroll and the company. Complete reports for management as requested.  Verifies benefit billing accuracy and processes for payment.  Perform payroll/benefits-related reconciliations.
  • Administers COBRA for group health plans.
  • Maintains and coordinates employee programs.
  • Perform customer service functions by answering employee and manager requests and questions. 
  • Conduct audits of various payroll, benefits or other HR programs and recommend any corrective action.
  • Update HRIS database records and process paperwork for new hires, terminations and other status changes.  Process changes within deadlines.
  • Assist with the performance review process.
  • Assist HR Director with various research projects and/or special projects.
  • Act as a resource for payroll/HR contacts to ensure their understanding and compliance with benefits and HR policies and regulations. Keep management advised of potential problem areas and recommend/implement solutions as appropriate.
  • Familiarity with various HRIS, Payroll or ATS systems/software. 
  • Perform outreach to community sources as needed.
  • Conduct exit interviews. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or 3- 5 years of HR generalist experience.
  • Experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs and other human resource programs.

Other Considerations: This position is W-2 only; no Corp-to-Corp or 1099 candidates. Relocation will not be offered. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation. Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area. The noise level in this environment is low to moderate. Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc. Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of time.
