Octo Consulting Group is seeking a Network Engineer to join our growing team.  


  • Support day-to-day operation of computer networks including hardware/software support, engineering, and special projects; plan, design and implement data connectivity for local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) systems; assist in coordinating special projects including network related wiring plans, data center connectivity diagrams, LAN/WAN hardware/software, and system installation, backup, maintenance and problem solving
  • Configure, test, implement and maintain data center infrastructure including power, racks and networks. Maintains integrity of data center. Provide support for LAN infrastructure at various remote locations.
  • Assist in providing network and remote connectivity hardware/software support
  • Maintain LAN user documentation including hardware/software applications, support logs and other related information
  • Provide technical support by evaluating and resolving network problems in Data Center and other locations.
  • Evaluate network performance using hardware and software diagnostic tools.
  • Work general O&M activities on the customer’s LAN during maintenance hours.
  • Research and recommend network and switches and software; assists in installing, designing, configuring, and maintaining system hardware, switches and software
  • Analyze and troubleshoot the network logs and tracks the nature and resolution of problems
  • Monitor usage to ensure security of data and access privileges; install, support and maintain both physical and virtual network servers and appliances; 
  • Research, analyze, monitor, troubleshoot and resolve server or data network problems
  • Develop, maintain and implement network support, and archiving procedure
  • Research and evaluate new technologies related to computer networking
  • Assist in planning; keep current regarding new hardware/software products for system enhancements
  • Have an exceptionally strong record of excellent customer-focused communications, partnering and people skills.
  • Demonstrate design flexibility to meet customer requirements and cost constraints. 

Skills & Requirements

  • Have extensive Cisco networking expertise including at least eight (8) years of experience with network engineering design and deployment in support of enterprise class PeopleSoft and SharePoint applications. 
  • Have extensive network security expertise including at least five (5) years of experience with network security in an enterprise environment
  • Experience with Cisco Firewalls
  • Experience with F5 load balancers
  • Experience with GTM
  • Knowledge of managing government systems
  • Experience working with Sun Solaris platforms and Windows operating systems
  • SUN Solaris System Administrator or Windows Administrator experience a plus

Certifications and Clearance: Treasury Public Trust or Top Secret strongly preferred

  • Required CCNP Certification - Cisco Systems
  • Public Trust clearance (US Citizenship required)

Required Education: BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or equivalent

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of the time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc.
  • Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of time

Work Environment:

  • Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area
  • The noise level in this environment is low to moderate
