Job Description

Octo Consulting Group is seeking a UX Designer to join our team in Reston, VA. This position will support modernization of a mission critical web based system for a Federal government agency. The candidate will be required to work with project stakeholders to collect user requirements, create wireframes and prototypes for user feedback.

Responsibilities:

  • Support redesign of federal critical case management system
  • Plan and execute iterative user research and analysis, defining clients’ needs, objectives, and audiences through focus groups, interviews, working sessions, surveys, and other discovery methods
  • Document interviews, focus groups, workshops, and other discovery activities
  • Develop designs that include storyboards, lo-fi wireframes and high fidelity mockups
  • Develop accessible and 508 compliant designs
  • Create client-facing deliverables including user personas, sitemaps, wireframes, usability audits, heuristic evaluations, usability testing reports, user scenarios, flows, and prototypes
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders

Skills & Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in UI/UX design, UX strategy, and usability research and testing
  • Must have experience with wire framing and prototyping tools (i.e. Adobe Illustrator, OmniGraffle, Axure, etc.)
  • Must have understanding and experience supporting 508 compliant applications
  • Must have understanding of the overarching process of website development (discovery, planning, design, requirements, coding, testing, and user testing and evaluation)
  • Experience with any of the following technologies/tools is a plus – US Web Design Standards, HTML5, CSS3, LESS, SASS, Git, and image authoring tools

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree

Other Considerations: This position is W-2 only; no Corp-to-Corp or 1099 candidates.  Relocation will not be offered. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation. Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area. The noise level in this environment is low to moderate. Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc. Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of time.
