Octo Consulting is searching for a dynamic Senior Data Architect to join our growing team and support a Navy Business Intelligence Program.

Responsibilities

-          Designs and builds relational databases.

-          Performs data access analysis design, and archive/recovery design and implementation.

-          Develops strategies for data acquisitions, archive recovery, and implementation of a database.

-          Works in a data warehouse environment, which includes data design, database architecture, and metadata repository creation.

-          Translates business needs into long-term architecture solutions.

-          Defines, designs, and builds dimensional databases.

-          Consults, facilitates understanding, and translates data requirements into logical, physical and semantic layer models across the analytical data environment.

-          Ensure data structures are designed for flexibility to support future business needs.

-          Profiles and analyzes source system data to determine data relationships, design constructs, consistency and quality.

-          Ensures data designs follow architectural best practices and appropriate business rules

-          Facilitate data integration, conformity, data quality, integrity and consolidation

-          Be an advocate for best practices while balancing business value and reasonable practicality

-          Creates and maintains critical data documentation and metadata that allows data to be understood and leveraged as a shared asset.

-          Develops strategy and repeatable process for maintaining the Enterprise Data model using automated tools.

-          Analyzes and evaluates data definition and modeling environment providing key recommendations for improvement. Assist in defining data modeling standards, and foundational best practices

-          Develops data warehousing blueprints, evaluating hardware and software platforms, and integrating systems.

-          Reviews and develops object and data models and the metadata repository to structure the data for better management and quicker access.

 

Skills & Requirements

Requirements:

-          Experience with hands-on data modeling expertise for relational databases – both for logical and physical data models

-          Advanced knowledge of designing multidimensional databases

-          Knowledge of various process modeling techniques (activity hierarchy diagrams, data flow diagrams, sequence diagrams, workflow diagrams, system interface diagrams)

-          Experience with building and maintaining physical and logical database models in Erwin

-          Experience with modeling tools such as ERWIN (7.x and above) and/or Oracle 10.x/11.x. PL/SQL programming or similar.

-          Extensive experience in various development methodology like Agile/Scrum development methodology

-          Advanced understanding of data integration, data virtualization, data federation, and database design techniques

-          Advanced knowledge of dimensional modeling, modeling for reporting applications, normalization techniques, forward-engineering, and reverse-engineering techniques

-          Experience in Data/Web Services Technology , ETL tools preferably Informatica

-          Experience providing technical/management leadership on major tasks or technology assignments.

-          Strong domain and expert technical knowledge.

-          Experience directing and controlling activities for a client, having overall responsibility for financial management, methods, and staffing to ensure that technical requirements are met.

-          Experience in client negotiations and interfacing with senior level management. 

-          Excellent communication, writing/documentation and facilitation skills

-          Ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

-          Strong diplomatic, interpersonal, and teamwork skills

 

Educational Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in an IT related field

Location: Arlington, VA

Clearance Requirements:

  • An active SECRET clearance is required

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of the time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc.
  • Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of time

 Work Environment:

  • Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area
  • The noise level in this environment is low to moderate
