Octo Consulting Group is looking for a qualified candidate to fill an on-site technical lead position on a federal services contract in Quantico, VA. The candidate will support our client with their use of an Information Technology (IT)/Information Management (IM) system that provides casework management, as well as, accurate and timely data reporting deployed at the client site. The candidate will also serve as the technical expert for issue identification and resolution, continuity of operation planning and testing, supporting and maintaining Microsoft SQL technologies utilized in the environment, SAN appliances, and the support of multiple application interfaces. In addition to providing technical support, the successful candidate will need to communicate frequently with the client, leading meetings, identifying process improvements, and distinguish technology gaps with the goal of providing solutions that close those gaps. The candidate must be detail-oriented, possess advanced critical thinking skills, capable of evaluating problems, identifying next steps, and providing recommendations on the spot. The candidate must be flexible and be able to work in an intense environment with multiple competing priorities.


  • Serve as the primary POC for, and provide technical support to resolve issues affecting the Client’s operational environments.
  • Lead client engagements/meetings in support of application testing, architectural configuration changes, issue tracking and triage initiatives, and other requirements as they arise.
  • Serve as the technical SME with regard to SOAP application interfaces (API) between the client’s information management system and external partner organizations, and application(s) architecture(s)/operability.
  • Lead the deployment of major system upgrades that affect multiple components requiring risk identification and mitigation, activity planning, resource identification, and proactive client communications.
  • Utilize a process management application (JIRA) to capture and track the completion of all technical project requirements, and support decision making processes.
  • Create documentation that tracks configuration, processes, and improvements to memorialize development and implementation efforts.
  • Lead, manage, and direct resources for all COOP exercises.
  • Primary duty location: Quantico, VA.


Skills & Requirements

Minimum Required Skills:

  • Strong foundational knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and supporting high availability environments.
  • Experience working with application interfaces and XML configuration files.
  • Strong knowledge and expertise in supporting medium scaled Microsoft environments.
  • Experience working with teams of various skill sets, and assisting in knowledge transfer or skill growth for team members.
  • Outstanding and effective verbal and written communication skills, and comfortable with interacting directly with customers.
  • Independent, self-starter, and proactive mindset with the ability to establish strategic objectives, project plans and milestone goals with strong work ethic taking ownership of all duties and responsibilities. Be able to accomplish tasks with little to no direction.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, interpersonal and presentation skills to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and activities, while being flexible to changing priorities as defined by the client.
  • Experienced in applying project management, ITIL, and proven change management skills.
  • Must enjoy working in a collaborative, service-centric environment across different functional areas and in ambiguous situations.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field).
  • 7-10 Years of technical experience.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience supporting SAN environments. Experience with NetApp Data OnTap is a plus.
  • Extensive experience managing and troubleshooting Microsoft Environments to include, SQL Server, Windows Server 2008R2 and 2012, .NET Applications.
  • 2008 MCITP: Enterprise Administrator/MCSA: Windows Server 2012 certification or similar.


  • Bachelor’s degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science or equivalent work experience.

Security Clearance:

  • Must have an active DOD Top Secret

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of the time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc.
  • Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of time

Work Environment:

  • Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area
  • The noise level in this environment is low to moderate
