Octo is looking for an Infrastructure Cloud Architect  

Octo Consulting Group is seeking an Infrastructure Cloud Architect  to partner with our executive clients at Federal agencies to achieve business objectives through the development and execution of pragmatic technology solutions.  The Infrastructure Cloud Architect is expected to develop a deep understanding of business and user needs and design applications and solutions that exceed expectations.  We are looking for someone that understands current technology solutions and can help clients push toward the new worlds of cloud, social and mobile.  More than just a strategic thinker, the Infrastructure Cloud Architect must be able to translate design into execution and help manage solutions through design, development and deployment.

The Infrastructure Cloud Architect is a technology expert who understands the strengths and weaknesses of platforms and solutions and serves as a trusted voice for our team and the client.  With client sponsorship, they develop relationships with IT and Program executives, putting them in position to translate business needs and insights into actionable IT strategy and assist engineering in driving these initiatives to early results and business value. This role requires a deep understanding of business and IT strategy, a disciplined approach to broader architectural challenges and opportunities, and a great grasp of technology and solutions. 

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in strategic planning sessions, roadmap and solutions development along with the Technical Lead
  • Write white papers
  • Write proposal responses
  • Produce architectural and functional design documents to meet client requirements
  • Team with the engineering resources to produce a technical specification for development and systems integration requirements
  • Provide current best practice and 3rd Party solution alternatives as part of the functional design
  • Participate in training design, documentation and delivery efforts in concert with the Technical Lead
  • Participate and lead, when needed, the project meetings with the client
  • Ensure quality, timeline and implementation objectives are reached

Skills & Requirements

Required Skills:

  • The ideal candidate must be self-motivated with a proven track record in solutions architecture with demonstrated experience in cloud, mobile and web technologies.  Candidate must be organized and analytical, adept at working in a team environment, able to design and implement a project schedule, and able to handle multiple priorities. Additional qualifications:
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in technology solutions and delivery, managing professional services, and leading technical IT teams.
  • AWS or equivalent certifications
  • Thorough understanding of Cloud Computing: virtualization technologies, Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service and Software as a Service Cloud delivery models and the current competitive landscape.
  • Thorough understanding of infrastructure (firewalls, load balancers, hypervisors, storage, monitoring, security, etc.) and experience with orchestration to develop cloud solutions
  • ITIL Certified
  • Agile Certified
  • TOGAF Certification Preferred
  • Understanding of Hybrid Cloud solutions and experienced in integrating public cloud into traditional hosting/delivery models.
  • Experienced at producing multi-tier, high-availability infrastructure architectures in an Enterprise & cloud environment adhering to DR, Business Continuity and availability best practices.
  • Experience with enterprise integration tools and extract, transformation and load (ETL) tools (e.g. MQSeries / Data Power, Informatica, Cognos).
  • Experience with common systems management, application frameworks and IT security practices and solutions (IBM, Microsoft, Cisco and/or EMC certifications a plus)

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS or equivalent preferred
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or MBA highly desirable

Clearance:

  • No clearance required, but must be clearable to Secret (requires US citizenship) 
  • Selected applicant will be subject to a background investigation

Location:

  • Mclean/Reston

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc.
  • Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of time

Work Environment:

  • Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area
  • The noise level in this environment is low to moderate
