The Program Manager role knows how to bring out the best in people.  This position requires a combination of self-confidence, humility, and a natural ability to demonstrate skills as a servant leader. This role seeks continuous quality improvement navigation of stakeholders and varying requirements.  This role requires an individual who is undeterred by challenges and seeks to work through them to optimize processes and outcomes.

The Program Manager values team growth and understands how to align the team to meet and exceed the organization’s goals.  They encourage team members to be organized and autonomous while engaging others to continuously improve processes. This role looks for ways to “do work better” and think in a way that is strategic and visionary to plan for and ameliorate risks and drive home success.  This role serves as an example and mentor to others within the Project Management team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support a product line as the program manager
  • Represent the product portfolio of projects, plans, and timelines
  • Manage cross-organization programs
  • Regularly communicate with and manage expectations of executive stakeholders
  • Deep understanding and application of professional best practices for Agile Project Management
  • Drive risk management and impediment removal across products
  • Monitor agile metrics for product value delivery
  • Part of the product leadership team along with development and product management representatives
  • Foster effective communication between the product areas
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure release readiness
  • Assist in coordinating and facilitating user-feedback sessions throughout the development life cycle
  • Keep the rest of the company network aware of the product’s activities
  • Be a subject matter expert in work item tracking and project tracking software
  • Manage vendor contracts and relationships for the product portfolio
  • Evaluate and optimize processes within the PMO and product portfolio
  • Mentor other Project and Program Managers on best practices
  • May be a direct line manager for Project Managers
Skills & Requirements

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Project Management, Software Development, Information Technology, Cyber-Security, or similar field preferred 
    • Work experience may substitute for degree
  • Six (6) to eight (8) years of demonstrable program/project management experience in software development, or IT Services (Cyber-security, software implementation), or healthcare IT services (software or application implementation, robotics implementation, interface development/implementation)
  • Expertise in the software development life cycle, preferably agile lifecycle management
  • Experience as a people manager, leveraging a growth mindset approach a plus
  • Experience in a matrixed resource environment
  • Project Management certification desirable
  • Agile/Scrum or PMI Agile Certified Professional preferred
  • ITIL certification preferred

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal – at all levels within the organization
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrable personal and team organization skills
  • Understand the nuances of software development processes and procedures (SDLC)
  • High expertise with project management practices, with emphasis on estimating, planning, risk management, and servant-leadership
  • In depth knowledge of iterative development and continuous delivery within any scaled Agile model (SAFe, LeSS, Scrum at Scale, Disciplined Agile, etc.)
  • Strong ability to grow and lead teams through various stages of group development (forming to performing)
  • Knowledge of one or more agile lifecycle management tools (Agility, JIRA, Rally, Agile DevOps, etc.) required
  • Knowledge of healthcare IT extremely helpful
