Fertility Centers of Illinois:  Operating Room Medical Assistant/Full Time/River North IVF / 900 North Kingsbury/Chicago.

  • Operating Room Experience required – women’s health back ground preferred.
  • Monday – Friday with weekend rotations required.
  •  Early morning/day shift with flexibility in times required.
  • Must hold current Medical Assistant Certification and current CPR certification

The hours for this full-time position are 7:00 am-3:30pm, Monday-Friday. Some 6:00 AM start times will be required depending on patient needs.  Must have flexible schedule as limited weekend rotation of up to four (4) weekend days per year is required.  Holidays are required.  

This role is responsible for the following:

Clinical/Technical:

  • Assists as scrub technician or circulating technician in the OR as assigned.  Knowledgeable of proper aseptic technique and set up/use of equipment.
  • Sets up, stocks, and maintains supplies for the blood drawing stations.
  • Cleans and cares for all equipment according to OSHA guidelines.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, and calling for assistance from other health care support if needed.
  • Assists with morning admissions as needed:  sets up room for procedures; assists physician or ultrasound technician as needed; takes vital signs; obtains patient height and weight if needed; assists with oocyte retrievals, embryo transfers, hysteroscopies, D&C's, or other procedures as needed; cleans and stocks rooms; cleans and cares for equipment according to OSHA guidelines; assists in maintaining medical records.
  • Utilizes the computer in entering labs and printing labels.  Ensures orders for lab work are in place.  Contacts primary nurse for order if needed.
  • Documents patient care services utilizing daily logs, patient records, and appropriate outside laboratory forms.
  • Ensures lab specimens are sent to proper labs.
  • Performs phlebotomy as needed using proper technique and universal precautions.
  • Enters lab work results from outside labs into the electronic medical record as directed.

Patient Interaction:

  • Comforts patients by anticipating anxieties, answering questions, providing support.
  • Provides patient education regarding clarification of physician instructions, medication instruction, and anticipatory guidance under the supervision of the nurse.
  • Assures quality care by adhering to therapeutic standards; follows physician practice and nursing division philosophies, as well as standards of care set by the state and other governing agency regulations.

Team Interaction:

  • Participates in resolving patient problems and needs if necessary by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Assists Nursing Department staff, or other departments, as needed.
  • Covers weekends and holidays as assigned.
  • Assist with maintaining computerized patient charts.

Compliance:

  • Maintain patient confidentiality by abiding by all aspects of HIPAA.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by abiding by all aspects of OSHA.
  • Adhere to all Practice standards, policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to incident reporting policy and procedures.

Accountability and professionalism:

  • Develop and maintain professional and effective working relationships with all customers and Practice physicians and staff.
  • Actively demonstrate behaviors associated with problem-solving, multi-tasking, and accountability.
  • Keep knowledge and skills current by attending continuing education and training opportunities.
  • Assist with training of new lab staff

Additional patient care tasks:

  • Take heights, weights, and vital signs and document results appropriately (location dependent).
  • Collaborate with nursing team to have patient questions and issues addressed promptly.
  • Provide anticipatory guidance for patients in terms of when to expect results and further information/instructions.
Skills & Requirements
  • High school graduate
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Medical Assistant certification is required! Certified by the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)- preferred
  • Experience in a medical office setting a plus!
  • Technical skills (i.e. venipuncture/phlebotomy, injections)
  • Proficiency with computer systems (i.e. Artworks, Mysis, lab portals- training provided)
  • Knowledge of and compliance with insurance requirements related to lab work
  • Adherence to all standards, policies and procedures associated with safety, sanitation, confidentiality, and company operations
  • Current CPR/BLS certification- preferred
