Fertility Centers of Illinois (FCI) is the fastest growing practice in the Chicago area dedicated to providing comprehensive fertility services. Our supportive and personalized approach to fertility care has led us to become one of the largest providers of fertility services in the United States.

The Insurance Verification Coordinator participates in and supports the overall functions of the Benefits Verification Division of the Central Billing Office to ensure that patient insurance benefits are determined before they start service. In addition, these benefits are clearly communicated to the patient and medical office staff, contributing to the overall quality of services provided by Fertility Centers of Illinois (FCI).

This a temporary, 40 hour per week position, from December to February, located at 3703 W. Lake Ave., Glenview, IL.   

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Obtains demographic and insurance information using the FCI Patient Data Sheet that is completed by the patient and their partner and FCI medical office staff.
  • Reviews submitted forms for completeness and requests missing information from either the patient and their partner or medical office staff.
  • Compares FCI Patient Data Sheet and copy of insurance card(s) to information entered into the billing system to ensure that files have been set up correctly.
  • Contacts the patient and their partner’s insurance plan to verify benefits and any benefit maximums. Enters information obtained through such contact into the patient and their partner’s FCI Financial Responsibility Form in ArtWorks prior to the patient’s first appointment.
  • Advises patient when it is determined that their and their partner’s benefits do not cover infertility treatment and that they will be in a Self-Pay status if they wish to receive treatment. Also, inactivates the patient and their partner’s insurance in the billing system, if it is determined that they have no insurance benefits.
  • Files a completed FCI Patient Responsibility Form in the patient’s ArtWorks record for review and signature at the patient’s first appointment.
  • Updates the patient and their partner’s billing account as circumstances change in the patient and their partner’s insurance coverage (e.g., a change in insurance plan). In such case, coordinates the completion of a new FCI Financial Responsibility Form for both the patient and their partner.
  • Serves as insurance benefits resource to the patient and their partner and medical office staff during treatment.
  • Keeps reporting senior informed as to progress in benefits verification processing activities. Participates in the implementation of procedures to improve the quality and quantity of work processed by the Benefits Verification team.
  • Monitors the processing of assigned daily activities and keeps reporting senior advised on necessary adjustments to work flow, when indicated. May assist other team members in the performance of their duties, when requested by reporting senior.

Additional functions of the job:

  • Maintains knowledge of and complies with external healthcare industry policies and procedures, including government, insurance, and third-party-payer regulations.
  • Complies with all IntegraMed and FCI policies and procedures, including attendance, dress, corporate compliance, and safety.
  • Attends administrative meetings and training sessions as requested.
  • Participates in special projects and studies as requested.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information and account status.

  • Education/Experience – High school degree and a minimum of two or more years’ related experience in physician billing with particular emphasis in benefits verification or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language Skills – Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and insurance verification policies and procedures. Mathematical Skills – Ability to add, subtract, divide, and multiply all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Reasoning Ability – Ability to solve patient accounting problems based on the application of established policies and procedures. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, and/or tabular form.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk; and hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Performs close vision work.
