Job Description

I.  Purpose of Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in Oral Surgery focuses on the health and wellness of individuals, families and populations in collaboration with other health care professionals by incorporating evidence-based practice in the management of patient care.  The RN utilizes the nursing process and aligns practice with organizational policies, professional nursing standards and regulatory practice acts.

 

The Registered Nurse in Oral Surgery provides direct patient care to patients requiring procedural sedation, assists the Oral Surgeon in patient consults, and oversees assigned tasks to facilitate effective patient care.

III.   Essential Job Functions/Duties

·         Conduct sound nursing assessment.

·         Utilizes computer programs to assess, process, educate and document all information in an accurate manner. Demonstrates working knowledge of all utilized software programs

·         Answer telephone inquiries regarding patient needs

·         Call/e-prescribe medication to pharmacy per provider and document in electronic health record

·         Perform outbound follow-up calls as requested

·         Adhere to general organizational, department and clinical policies and protocols

·         Respond to oral surgery emergencies

·         Conform to infection control policies, utilize aseptic technique and follow standard precautions

·         Utilize interpreter services for limited English proficient patients

·         Provide excellent customer service and patient/family centered care.

·         Works effectively on a team and communicate respectfully with patients and all staff based on shared goals and mutual respect. 

·         Honors patients’ right to privacy and confidentiality.  Adheres to strict patient, customer and business confidentiality standards

·         Assists Oral Surgeon in patient consults

·         Performs advanced nursing activities including procedural sedation, preoperative and postoperative assessments, and patient education.

·         Assesses patient’s health history, including medication reconciliation in preparation for oral surgery procedure.

·         Oversees various daily activities of the oral surgery practice as assigned by the Sun Prairie Clinic Manager

 

IV.   Additional Job Functions/Duties

·      Participation in educational activities for staff, students, trainees and volunteers.

·      Participate in quality improvement activities and process improvement projects.

·      Maintain solid and positive communication with other work teams in the clinic.

·      Performs other duties as assigned.

VI. Education, Experience and Credentialing

Required Qualifications:

1.    Associate Degree in Nursing

2.    Current licensure in State of Wisconsin

3.    Minimum of 3 years in experience in either an inpatient or outpatient setting

       providing procedural sedation

4.    BLS & ACLS certification

 

Preferred Qualifications:

1.       Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

2.      PALS Certification

3.    Fluency in English and Spanish

4.    Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Epic

5.    Previous experience in dental setting
