Due to organizational growth, Liberty Healthcare is hiring for a new full-time Competency Education Trainer position.

This position will be a key contributor with Liberty’s specialized forensic mental health program at the Robert Presley Detention Center – a Riverside County jail located in Riverside, CA.

Liberty’s program provides timely and comprehensive mental health care and restoration services to adults who are found to be incompetent to stand trial due to their mental illness.

As a Competency Education Trainer, you will work onsite in the jail and provide face-to-face services to program clients who are adult inmates.

You will focus on educating clients about their mental illness, the criminal justice system, and general court proceedings.  Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Documenting services and client progress
  • Helping to develop competency education curriculum and materials
  • Participating in clinical team meetings and case conferences
  • Collaborating with psychiatrists, mental health clinicians, nurses, ancillary clinical staff, and jail security staff
  • Helping to ensure program clients receive high quality mental health services

As a full-time employee of Liberty Healthcare, you can expect:

  • Starting salary between $60,000 and $67,000 (depending on qualifications)

Skills & Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Education, Criminal Justice, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related social services / human services field.

Experience supporting people with mental illness is required. Outstanding communication skills are a must, and you should have the ability to establish rapport with people who are experiencing mental illness.

Knowledge of the criminal justice system and familiarity with California Penal Code 1370 is helpful. 

A background in Social Work, Case Management, or similar experience in a mental health setting is preferred.   A professional license is not required.
