Job Description

Tutors are employed to provide individualized assistance to and facilitate group study sessions for Friends University students. Peer tutors help fellow students understand course content and grow as students through encouragement and support to develop academic skills necessary to be effective, efficient, confident, and successful in their academic studies.  The Title III peer tutor position will also provide outreach to first generation students and students from other diverse populations on campus.

Peer Tutors work one-on-one with students, lead study sessions, attend monthly training in-services for tutoring skill development, work on projects and resources to help students, and help with day-to-day operations of the Academic Resource Center. Tutoring experience is not required because we provide a strong orientation and ongoing training. The Title III tutor will also reach out to and engage first generation students and students from other groups.

Skills & Requirements

Strong student in one, preferably several, subject areas such as writing, math, science (chemistry, biology, zoo science,etc.), engineering, accounting, finance, music theory, computer science, religion, and Spanish. Good interpersonal and communication skills, such as explaining complex concepts clearly. Desire to help others grow in understanding of course content and academic skills.  Bilingual (Spanish) required.

Flexible shifts include Sunday afternoon and evening, Monday through Thursday morning, afternoon, and evening, and Friday morning and afternoon.
