Job Summary: To supervise and assist ware washer staff in cleaning and maintaining all BOH areas at Pier Sixty /LH as well as Sports Center Café, while maintaining Abigail Kirsch’s standards of quality.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Direct associates in completion of tasks as designated by assignment sheet or verbally by senior supervisors as well as when necessary complete the essential tasks of ware washers.
  • Set up and clean dish machines; break down and clean dish machines.
  • Insure proper operation and cleaning of dish machines.
  • Insure glassware, flatware, china, hollowware and kitchen small wares being cleaned are properly stacked and prepared.
  • Insure glassware, flatware, china, hollowware and kitchen small wares are properly stacked and prepared for cleaning.
  • Clean by manual or mechanical means, flatware, glassware, china, hollowware, and kitchen small wares and heavy equipment. 
  • Insure proper storage of flatware, glassware, china, hollowware, and kitchen small wares and heavy equipment.
  • Assist in the movement and proper distribution of glassware, flatware, hollowware, and china as directed by an immediate supervisor or requisition.
  • Maintain cleanliness of  all work areas, up to and including facilities outside the physical plant of operation (off-prem.)
  • Remove all garbage and refuse and insure proper disposal
  • Insure that kitchen floors are mopped, swept and squeegeed.
  • Insure that food counter and prep tables are properly cleaned.
  • Insure that floor drains are cleaned out and sanitized
  • Insure that  all walls and ceiling tiles including those in and out of refrigerators are cleaned
  • Insure that all countertops and cooking equipment are sanitized.
  • Insure that chemicals are properly  stored
  • Insure adherence of staff to regulatory, departmental and company policies and standards.
  • Assist in the transport of perishable and non-perishable assets between the existing facilities and other locations (off-prem.).
  • Maintain a clear and safe work environment by clearing up spills quickly and safely throughout the facilities and keeping walkways and work spaces clear of obstruction.
  • Assist the culinary department in plating out during sit-down dinners as well as setting up and preparing coffee for events.
  • Assist the culinary department with setting up family-meals.
  • Ensure associates are following proper safety procedures and guidelines when performing tasks.
  • Maintain the proper flow of equipment and personnel in BOH areas.
  • Complete required documentation including assignment sheets, punch lists and when necessary accident reports and log book entries.
  • Communicate using telephone or radio to associates in and out of the department.
  • Secure equipment and facilities BOH and FOH when required.
  • Communicate with outside vendors when required.
  •  Travel as necessary to different locations on and off-prem.
  • Perform all reasonable requests by the management team.
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled meetings and training sessions.
  • Know and follow all Abigail Kirsch/ Pier Sixty emergency and safety procedures.

Skills & Requirements

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years experience as a ware washer or in a Stewarding Department or equivalent.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • New York City Food Handlers Certification or related food safety training knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to operate ware washing equipment and handle extreme room temperatures.
  • Ability to direct subordinates to complete assigned tasks as well as assist in performing tasks that are normally delegated to subordinates.
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop on a consistent basis.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push up to 100 lbs with or without assistance. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with associates, management, clients and vendors if necessary.
  • Ability to operate radios and phones
  • Able to work flexible schedule in order to accommodate business levels.
