Job Description

Reports to:   APEX Coordinator / Director of Student Life and Co-Curricular Programs

Work Schedule:  Part-time position, Approx 25 hours per week, 10-month staff work calendar

Shifts may vary depending on facility and program needs. Examples are: afternoon coaching shift between 2pm - 6:30pm, Saturday operating shift and occasional morning shifts where required.

The work schedule shall be set by the Director of Co-curriculars in conjunction with appointed SAS supervisors. This will be structured to ensure smooth programs and operations during APEx opening hours, which will include weekdays, weekends and SAS school holidays. Availability on Saturdays is preferred.

Operating Hours of APEx : Monday to Friday - 6.00am - 6.00pm / Saturday - 8:00am-1:30pm

Compensation:  This role will be paid at an hourly rate of $20/hour.

Role Overview

The APEx Assistant Coach reports directly to the APEx Coordinator and is primarily  responsible for helping to establish, coach and maintain developmentally appropriate programs to SAS student-athletes whilst supporting the general student population with their fitness goals. 

The role may also include supporting staff and parents and faculty; supervise all activities taking place in the APEx Facility; and monitor and progress to ensure that equipment is used safely and that programs are followed; and consult, support and assist the sports medicine staff with injured athletes' rehabilitation plans.

The APEx Facility (Athletic Performance & Exercise) is Singapore American School’s on-campus health and wellness center. Singapore American School seeks a dynamic individual to oversee the programming and operations of this facility.

The APEx Assistant Coach will work in partnership with the APEx Coordinator in delivering the following:

  • Create a positive and safe approach towards training and remaining physically active for life (regardless of age and ability).
  • Encourage diverse student participation in APEx activities
  • Prepare our SAS students for the rigors of High School Athletics through educationally sound pedagogy, youth athlete development and physical preparation in pre season, in season and off season
  • Contribute to formation of annual LTAD physical development framework for each varsity sport
  • Assist with Injury prevention- prehab and rehab.
  • Assist with consultation of the PE curriculum as needed
  • Support Strength and Conditioning programming for co-curriculars
  • Provide health & fitness opportunities for the SAS Community (Faculty/Staff/Parents/Alumni)
  • Manage membership of and access to APEx
  • Create, implement and adhere to all SAS policies such as; student safeguarding and facility/equipment usage.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in cooperation with the Activities & Athletic Directors and associated teams in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes
  • Collaborate with coaches as needed to arrange sport-specific training regime for team members
  • Manage the APEx facility in collaboration with the APEx Coordinator
  • Educate center users on proper use and technique – including but not limited to in-service sessions for PE department faculty
  • Liaise with the SAS Facilities team
  • Assist APEx Facility users in the case of a medical emergency
  • Liaise with external vendors and internal maintenance/ operations teams to ensure all the equipment running properly and to assure a well-kept facility
  • Provide strength & conditioning educational content for the athletics programs
