Job Description

Responsibilities Overview:  Leader in an education focused theater complex. Acts as supervising technical director for all of the programs that utilize SAS theater facilities and as a stage manager and liaison for both inside and outside groups using the facilities. Must possess an understanding of the educational development of students as well as operational knowledge of how a show is produced in order to make effective decisions on how the facility will be scheduled.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Theater Production Management
    • Helps with production needs of shows (e.g., ordering materials, obtaining licenses, working with parent volunteers)
    • Acts as the stage manager / producer for shows
    • Leads theater systems use
    •  Develops and maintains appropriate links with key stakeholders (e.g., parents, students, staff, suppliers) to communicate about upcoming Performing Arts events and to solicit/manage event feedback
    • Manages the High School production budget
    • Manages the costume room (e.g., check out/ check in, liaison with seamstress, liaison with parent help, organize dry cleaning)
    • Manages the props room (e.g., check out / check in, research and acquisitions)
  • Student club sponsorship - Is the sponsor for student clubs associated with production of shows (e.g., Technical Theater Club, Theater Makeup Club, Usher Society, and Visual and Performing Arts Council (VPAC).
  • Aids in the development of the school calendar
    • Scheduling of kindergarten through grade 12 rehearsals and performances.
    • Scheduling of school curricular and extracurricular activities that utilize the theater facilities
    • Scheduling of conferences, guest speakers, clubs and community groups that utilize the theatre facilities
    • Identifying conflicts in facilities bookings that may arise.
    • Liaising with community partners users of the facilities (e.g., Scouts, PTA, Booster Booth, Speaker Series).
  • Management of theater facilities
    • Confirms the needs of the events and attends meetings to organize them (e.g., conferences, PTA events, community events, divisional events)
    • Oversight of theater staff – schedules, hiring (in conjunction with administration); evaluation
    • Manages the theater facilities budget
    • Regularly interacts with Facilities Office to confirm the activities of the coming week in the theater areas and to support the development of long and short term plans for theater maintenance and upgrade
    • Regularly interacts with the divisional administration and activity directors.

Supervisor:  This position reports directly to the High School Principal.

Terms of Employment: The successful candidate will be offered a Professional/ Technical contract (schedule negotiable).
