BASIC FUNCTION
Cognition Financial is seeking an experienced credit strategist to lead the credit strategy for its student lending and other unsecured lending portfolios. This individual will be a motivated credit risk professional with a bias to action and an interest in leading high-quality analysis. The right individual can lead a team of analysts but will also be hands-on and write code. The position reports to Chief Credit Officer and will work closely with Product, Engineering, Legal, Finance and Marketing teams. A critical leadership role in the company, the impact of this person will be instrumental in helping Cognition achieve its mission of providing financial solutions to the millennial generation

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY – YES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS*
1) Think through credit policies for new initiatives and products, shaping ongoing testing and experimentation
2) Forecast losses and delinquencies for existing portfolios
3) Monitor macroeconomic trends impacting loan performance and drive adjustments to our underwriting and marketing strategies to mitigate risk
4) Lead and develop a team of talented quantitative analysts and data scientists
5) Identify and evaluate vendors and data providers using empirically supported cost-benefit analyses
6) Collaborate with marketing, product and engineering teams to improve funnel efficiency and collect additional information from borrowers to enhance credit and pricing strategies


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1) Assist the Chief Credit Officer govern risk management policies and practices





Skills/Requirements
 QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree in a Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering or a related field or a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field with equivalent work experience
• 10+ years’ work experience in consumer credit risk management
• Work history with evidence of increasing responsibility and measurable business impact.
• Experience using R, Python, SAS or similar language for strategy development and analysis
• Able to deliver results across multiple projects in parallel
• Ability to collaborate and influence across different teams in the organization
• Grit. Lots of grit. You’ll wear 7 hats and not love all of them
