We are seeking a
Stewarding and Facilities Manager
to join our team!

 

The Stewarding  Manager will define best practices for leading Head Stewards and Lead Stewards to excellent and efficient operations regarding housekeeping, dish and internal R&M jobs.  They are responsible for hiring, inspiring and scheduling a team of 2 Head Stewards, 5 Lead Stewards and 30 Stewards while maintaining a consistent and appropriate payroll.  The candidate will be process oriented, speak English, with strong oral and written communication skills.  The candidate will seek and refine efficiencies while promoting and teaching a culture of EH.  As a pivotal position intended to support the entire AF Team, they must be dependable, well organized, and resourceful.  A successful candidate will own an innate ability to multitask and support very diverse operational needs while filling the roles of Head Stewards while they are away from their respective units.  This individual must aspire to continued growth and development; while hiring and developing a team that shares in those ideals.  This individual must be a Servant Leader and offer a level of flexibility in demeanor and schedule that will support our teams and the changing needs of our dynamic businesses.  They will also own all communication and tracking of necessary and preventative R&M needs while maintaining and professional and mutually beneficial relationship to our counterparts in MoMA.  Financial responsibility for all R&M and Chemical lines on the P&L will be owned by the Stewarding Manager.

The job responsibilities will include but aren't limited to:

Create and drive processes that serve AF globally while supporting leaders on the Stewarding Team in creation and management of processes that support The Modern and AF Cafes
 
All processes to be documented and accountability to be defined. 
All processes will need to be updated and refined and well communicated as necessary.
 
 
Lead and inspire head stewards for The Modern and AF Cafe teams to drive goals defined by Facilities and Stewarding Manager
 
Partner with Assistant Stewarding Managers and Supervisors with interviewing, hiring, discipline and coaching for all stewards.
Partner with Assistant Stewarding Managers and Supervisors to creates schedules and communicates changes in unit focus to accounting. Works with budgeted labor hours to achieve goals while continuing to drive labor efficiency.
Define and reward succession so that strong players are recognized and rewarded to inspire GenNext.  Set and adjust rates of pay to reflect level of skill/responsibility.
Define training program for each position and assure that all points are well communicated. 
Assess all employees at defined intervals assuring to be decisive before 90 days.  
Assure that all Wage & Hour compliance considerations are systemically achieved. 
 
 
 
Purchase and store all cleaning, chemicals and maintenance supplies. Maintain appropriate inventory levels
 
Educate all team members on appropriate usage of chemicals.
Ownership over P & L line item for chemicals.
Ownership on all R & M line items on P & L.  
 
 
Maintain all facilities in a clean and organized fashion in accordance with NYCDOH and NYC building code guidelines and ensure all kitchen equipment, refrigeration units, ice machines etc. are in excellent working condition
 
Liaise with MoMA counterparts to assure alignment with MoMA goals.
Educate all team members on appropriate DOH standards.
Maintain all compliance signage as required. 
Own or create experts on specific needs associated with facility for housekeeping maintenance (terrazzo floors, wood floors, fine carpets, leather, windows, mirrors, wine wall, wood and marble surfaces, all furniture). 
 
Communicate with MoMA Operations team for in house maintenance issues and communicate with contracted service and repair companies for equipment repairs
 
Delegate as appropriate to Assistant Stewarding Managers and Supervisors
Liaise between all MoMA building operations and security and safety teams and Art Food.
All processes to be documented and accountability to be defined. 
All processes will need to be updated and refined and well communicated as necessary.
Assist with large repair and maintenance projects.
 
Defines ongoing communication channels to betterment
 
Organizes self and daily schedule to drive communication from stewarding staff to management to FOH/BOH teams
Innovates new ways to integrate communication and empathy across teams (attendance at line-ups, service notes for line-up, maintenance of public boards and signage)
Creates and holds team accountable for daily/weekly/monthly meetings and walk-throughs
 
 
Coordinate all large repair, maintenance and renovation projects with outside contractors
Oversees all shared steward labor and shared facilities including mezzanine kitchen, locker rooms and egresses 




Skills/Requirements
Prior management experience a plus.  Must excel at all points of management:  Planning, Organizing, Directing and Controlling.
2-3 Years FOH/BOH Full Service/Fine Dining/Catering experience
Culinary/Hospitality Degree Preferred
Ability to perform light maintenance repairs
Ability to troubleshoot/ problem solve
Ability to organize and motivate self and staff
Diplomatic communication skills with high level of integrity
Confident in reporting all deviations from agreed upon processes and goals to Operations Manager and Director of Operations in a professional way.
Computer knowledge/ Microsoft Office
Proficiency in Spanish
DOH Sanitation Certified
Flexible schedule to be determined by ever-changing needs of the business
