Job Description: Lays out, installs, maintains, and repairs all types of pipelines, fittings and fixtures in plant maintenance and construction.Interprets drawings and sketches. Plans detail of working procedure and selects materials in accordance with needs of work to be done.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lays out work; calculates dimensions and radii of bends; makes sketches of piping.
Sets up and operates bending, threading and cutoff equipment and uses hand tools or torch to shape, prepare and fabricate pipe for work to be done.
Tests, inspects, dismantles, repairs, replaces or installs any type of high or low pressure piping, tubing, fittings, fixtures and parts for the installation, maintenance and repair of pipelines for air, water, steam, oils, gases, acid, and caustics.
Makes and seals various types of joints such as expansion, flange, nipple, coupling, union, lead wiped, soldered, flared, caulked. Installs gaskets, packing, and tests joints for leaks or tightness.
Sets up pipe for welded or special type joints.
Fastens hangers and supports.
Applies various types of insulation and pipe covering.
Handles or makes provisions for the handling of materials, equipment and tools to and from the job site in connection with the work.
Cleans all work areas
Performs any other duties assigned by supervisor
Performs all work in a safe and efficient manner and keeps work area in a clean and orderly condition.
Skills/Requirements
JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must have 2 years work experience as an industrial pipefitter or has successfully completed a curriculum closely related to pipe fitter work from a vocational institution.
