Job Description

Role Summary:  Under direct supervision, responsible for the procurement of assigned materials to support inventory strategies and working capital objectives.  Acts as backup to other Planner/ Buyers and Special Linings and Coatings Coordinator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identifies finished goods product needs through use of various business systems.  Replenishes inventory by issuing purchase orders or stock transfer orders.  Procures product from approved suppliers in accordance with previously negotiated prices, terms and proportions of business. 
  • Assists the Demand Planner and the Director of IBP in determining product to be stocked and corresponding min/max levels.  Insures that proper inventory levels are maintained at all times.
  • Maintains relationships with plant schedulers and key suppliers.  Identifies and resolves any order, inventory or pricing issues.
  • Works with Transportation department to minimize freight cost by selecting the lowest cost ordering and shipping methods that meet customer service objectives.
  • Works with Customer Service to help address material availability and customer questions / concerns.
  • Assists in physical inventories.  Identifies and tracks obsolete product and recommends best disposition.
  • Coordinates with Special Projects on sourcing decisions and timing of jobs to meet customer job requirements.
Performs other duties as assigned.



Skills/Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Well-developed skills in Microsoft Office software required. 
  • Experience in ERP software, preferably SAP.
  • Superior level of interpersonal ability.  Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Extremely high level of organizational skills.
  • Above-average math and written communication ability. 

     

    Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • 2-5 years of supply chain experience in a manufacturing/industrial setting, or 4-Year Degree in Supply Chain Management or related field of study.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

The employee will be generally working in a normal office environment.  Rarely, the employee may be exposed (briefly) to foundry working conditions:  Heat & Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes and Metallic Particles.
