To supervise the maintenance and repair work performed in the Fabricating Department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plans, directs and supervises the work of employees in the Fabricating Building.
Insures that employees in all areas are properly trained, insures that working procedures are followed and that all work is performed in a safe and efficient manner.
Identifies training needs of hourly employees in all areas and assists the Maintenance Manager and the Human Resources Director in insuring that training needs are met.
Evaluates and determines the effectiveness of manpower utilization, working procedures and cost control measures and consults with the Maintenance Manager on any deficiencies and methods for improvement.
Requisitions materials and equipment necessary to insure an efficient flow of work in all areas of responsibility.
Recommends materials and equipment required for maintenance and repair jobs; requisitions stock material and equipment necessary for mechanical and electrical maintenance operations. Oversees contract labor required on maintenance, repair, and construction jobs.
Reviews daily and monthly operating costs of the Fabricating Building and consults with the Maintenance Manager on cost control measures.
Insures that repair work and/or fabrication work performed on production and processing equipment is done in an expedient manner so as to avoid or minimize downtime.
Partners with production staff to eliminate the causes of production delays resulting from equipment failures. Monitors delay records and assist in the root cause identification of mechanical and electrical delays.
Enforces the Company’s plant and safety rules and procedures and issues disciplinary actions to violators in a fair and consistent manner.
Receives and evaluates first step grievances, notifies the Maintenance Manager of the grievances and furnishes a reply to the grievant and/or the Union Representative.
Insures that all work areas are maintained in a neat, orderly, and safe condition.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills/Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have knowledge of the operation and maintenance.
Must have knowledge of welding, machining, torch burning procedures and the use of calipers and gauges.
Must have the ability to order materials and plan work through the reading of blueprints.
Must possess the ability to make decisions, plan and direct the repair, maintenance and fabrication work of a large work force.
Must have good written/verbal communication skills.
Must have good people management skills and the ability to deliver employee training.
Must have good enough computer skills to do moderately complex record-keeping and administrative tasks and to use SAP or other manufacturing programs.
Must have knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
Qualifications:
Requires a HS Diploma or GED and at least 3 years of relevant supervisory experience.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
The employee will be working in a heavy industrial environment exposing the employee to Foundry operations. The employee will be exposed (80% of the time) to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust. Fumes, and Metallic Particles. 20% of the time will be office environment.
The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, Walking, Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Reaching, Talking, Seeing, Hearing and Sitting. The majority of the actions will be walking and standing.
